Basically, OS X and iOS belong the the left most side, while Windows and Android belong to the mid-left side.
Linux can be on any level, depending on the Distro, and I should put NetBSD on the right most side.

I won't mention any other OSs, as those are either dead, dying, or dead on arrival, anyway.
(And I've included Windows Mobile, Windows Phone, and the Smartphone Edition of Windows 10 under "Windows", along with the Desktop OSs.)

...hold on a sec, are we including non-Microsoft-endorsed windows customization options (e.g. 3rd-party visual styles, Start Menu replacements, OldNewExplorer-type stuff, etc.)? Because if so, I think that Windows as a desktop OS would be further to the right...or, you know, just form a range or something.

Nonetheless, it does kinda seem like everything is shifting left except Linux, though I can still barely even Linux to begin with, so I don't think my views on it are even worth mentioning...is Linux shifting right or something? Because if so, then that basically means there's no-one targeting normal users .___.

Microsoft's policy regarding Windows was a pretty brilliant marketing plan, really. Release a buggy, beta OS then release a polished, finished version under the same name. Vista and 10, Millennium Edition and XP (? not sure), and 8 and 8.1 are some examples. Basically public beta-testing under the name of a finished OS. They lose credibility for a year or two, then get it back when they release the newer, better version.

My bet is that in a year or two, they're going to release "Windows 11" or something which is basically Windows 10 but slightly better. Probably won't be that much better, and it's probably going to retain the ugly, needlessly basic """"""""modern""""""" look, but it's probably going to suck at least a little less.

Though I don't have any experience with Windows 10 anyway so I can't actually say anything about the OS itself but I'd probably just say the exact same things everyone else has said

Windows Me and Windows 2000 are each other's counterparts (Me for home users, and 2000 for office users), while Windows XP succeeded both of them.

I find it ironic how that look is an Aero theme, yet it is described as Basic. *ba dum tsss*

...would I be pushing it to say that as of Windows 8, Microsoft is officially designing their Visual Styles using their own image editor (*COUGH*MSPaint*COUGH*)? *BA DUM TSSS*

I mean come on folks, high school students can design prettier UIs than Microsoft's own. Just look at this Visual Style I've been making for Windows 8.1u1 (Click for larger version):
[thumbnail]
Now tell me that doesn't look atleast MARGINALLY better than Windows 10. Admittedly it was loosely based off of a Windows Longhorn concept from sometime in 2003, but a number of these ideas and such are my own, too.

Sorry, I'm not trying to imply that this is a joke, but honestly...Windows 10 is kinda beginning to look like one to me. Am I the only one?

that style is uh, weird, looks like a weird cross of Windows XP and 10

regardless, just make me a Windows theme that looks like an Acmlmboard and I'll do anything for you

Why do so many people dislike the visual theme of Windows 10?

In my opinion it looks a lot better than 7 and defenetly ages better then these Longhorn concept things.
Probably because I rather like flat designs.

It's loosely based on a Longhorn concept... ._.

...wait, does that make it better than 10's default?

Is that a joke?

Probably related to some of these...
a) Vista and 7 set the bar way too damn high
b) Microsoft's Photoshop licenses expired so they had to use the only other image editor they had: MSPaint, their very own
c) Most people didn't buy a 10000x5000 monitor (lol) which can display more colours than the human eye can perceive or whatever just to use it to look at the same colours you'd get on a 640x480 screen from 1996 or whenever

Yeah, and it's only you. Almost. Lol...?

EDIT: Also if I were to interpret your remark about how Longhorn concepts age, I'd guess that Windows 10 only ages well because it was already so bad it couldn't get any worse, whereas Aero is actually somewhat pleasing to look at, and therefore has room to become dated ._.

(Just my personal opinion, though .-. )

EDIT EDIT: Also keep in mind that I'm far from the only person still interested in those Longhorn concepts. Heck, the beta builds we have available are atleast as interesting, if not more so because you can actually (sort of) use them :OD

What puts me off Windows 10 is not the mediocre (at best) design, the fuggin useless apps, nor the ram-eating Edge browser.

No, what puts me off is the fact that Microsoft has turned to botnet. Tracking your keystrokes, recording your searches, and all their anti-piracy measures.

I'm just feeling a lack of privacy here. :|

You know what? You're right. The other stuff is just annoying, but a KEYLOGGER?? That's more like grounds for legal action. Well, I hope it is. I just can't wait for them to remove it in response to all the LAWSUITS. And when they do, it will be removed from ALL Windows 10 PCs thanks to the mandatory automatic updates ^-^

...huh. I guess there IS a good reason to force automatic updates on Windows...

Pretty sure the "keylogger" is only present in the preview builds, which if you use them, you agree with the terms that come with them. It should not be present in RTM.

AFAIK that was a false assumption/rumor from before release .____________.

Just googled it. You're correct. But, all those praising Windows 7, the same service was also added to both Windows 7 and 8 by an update.

ikr ;-;

I'm just glad I haven't installed a single Windows update in over 6 months. Never doing it again. I'd rather be safe from Microsoft than protected by them.

It's funny how Windows 10 is hated for its spying on users, yet people are still happy to use Google services and don't care about their spying on users.

Windows 10 has a horrible start menu and just feels like a clone of Windows 8.1 with a few changes.

I'll stick with Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 SP1, for now. I do find the update thing annoying, I will try to find a way to block it soon.

I might just get Linux Ubuntu (or Debian, not sure which), because I don't wanna put up with Micro$oft. After my Windows 7 goes kaput at least.

Good luck. Once you need software such as Premiere or Photoshop, you're screwed.
