Realism in video games is not welcome when it means tedium.
First, bow charging. Makes sense. Can't machinegun arrows at enemies anymore. Not that it really worked anyway, there's a delay when hitting an enemy before you can hit it again, so machinegunning just wasted a lot of arrows. Hunger. The start of the descent to hell. We had a perfectly good health system where eating shit healed you and that was all. But now, you have to constantly maintain yourself, just like in real life. Remember to eat or die. Since you start the game with basically nothing, and wheat & co. take ages to grow, it means you spend your first few days constantly starving to death. Or you can kill mobs, but then since mob spawning is also 'realistic' (requiring you to breed them), you end up having to travel miles to find new mobs. It's highly inconvenient, but it's realistic. It's a good thing, right? The attack meter. So since we applied realism to bows, why not do the same to swords? It can only be a good idea! The basic idea is that when you use your sword, you have to wait till the attack meter recharges before using it again. The strength of the hit depends on the charge. So now, if you mash the attack button, you're basically fighting with bare hands, no matter what you're holding. Good luck fighting creepers. A good side, though, is that tools are also usable as weapons (without crappy characteristics). Axes for example are powerful but slow. Boat rowing. Oh god. Moving your boat by keeping W pressed isn't realistic enough, you have to press A and D alternately to simulate rowing (with a totally not realistic animation). And if you don't press your keys at the right pace, you go as fast as a snail. So what's next? Walking by pressing A and D to move your legs, and if you do it wrong, you fall and get hurt? Constantly pressing keys to breathe? Minecraft is another of those games that have been ruined by 'realism'. ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

Yeah. Another example of this for me was battlefield. Battlefield 3 was great imo, then battlefield 4 came along and it had weapon sway, which is the gun moving side by side when you walk, and when you aim you'd have a shit ton of inaccuracy. Welp, kinda sucked, I mean, if I wanted a realistic shooter id fucking join the military, but I wanna play. Counter Strike is a great example, stayed true to its roots, no bs realism, game meta stayed the same since it first came out. |

First post here is going to be talking about Minecraft. Woo
I don't have much of an opinion about this as I play creative and even in survival I've never had a problem keeping my hunger at a good level, but I hope it doesn't go too far beyond this. I do agree that video games are supposed to be an escape from reality; why people want to play games based on reality is beyond me and this is why I like Nintendo. From the biased point of view I just got from here though, it amuses me that Minecraft is far from being real (creepers and skeletons and zombies and stuff don't exist, you can't erase the existence of matter completely and that quickly, you can't build things that quickly, wtf is redstone and how does it carry power), but yet it tries to implement realism in square character behavior. |

IMO, there should be an option to enable realism in these certain games. Would definitely please a lot of people. ____________________ discord: taikonotatsujin photobucket ![]() |

There is: Creative vs Survival. There's also a version chooser. Those are the only 2 options you need. |

Alteast they let you choose which version you want. Shame they don't provide Indev tho, when they provide even the earliest versions.
I played on the last Alpha version. It's good except for missing weather and no leaf decay. ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

Hunger is something that I have gotten used to over the years, but boat rowing and sword charging is really, really unnecessary. Like I don't think I could even play the game with those "features". Luckily I hardly even play survival since it's gotten kind of boring after playing it for so many years.
Really the only thing I do in Minecraft these days is some singleplayer creative mode building or visting a minigame server. Either way, minigames will probably be very broken considering the new combat changes in the next update. I haven't even been keeping up with the updates because I just don't care about it much anymore. |

At least being able to start the game on older versions is still a thing. Isn't it?
With that and servers that are dedicated to certain versions of the game you can preserve the parts of Minecraft that you actually like. |

tbh when I saw 1.9's "combat update" where the hoe is now the strongest weapon I was pretty much like "screw this." Looks like Microsoft ruined another game. ____________________ A nobody. |

That's true, but it makes 0 sense because a hoe isn't even designed for combat. ____________________ A nobody. |

There wasn't anything wrong with the old health system either. Eat shit to heal yourself, pretty standard in the videogame world.
Why make Minecraft realistic, anyway? As if creepers and giant spiders were realistic by any means. Because in the meantime: * spiders still climb walls by merely levitating against the wall * rollercoasters are still crap because minecarts don't rotate you when they take turns (and the crappy collision detection makes you suffocate in places where you shouldn't) If anyone knows where to get Alpha/Beta SMP server software, though, I'd be interested. Maybe we can try the whole 'Kuribo64 Minecraft server' adventure again with something better than a hacked Cuberite. ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

Posted by SBKek, you just stole what I said a few posts ago. Posted by SBThis is an issue? I don't want them to change this; if I'm facing a certain direction to do something while riding I don't want to be suddenly turned. |
