What games do you think are over and underrated?
NOTE: Five Nights at Freddys and Minecraft arnt aloud as responses because we dont want a kuribo Flame War

Underrated:
3. New super maio bros DS. My 2nd fav game ever. this game was one of the most original in the series with hundrieds of new sprites and Nostalgia.

2. Mario and Luigi partners in time
The best RPG franchise (other than EB) and its best game in the series. so much work was put in this game. if you havnt played this game close kuribo and open your nintendo WiiU eshop.

1. Wario Master of Disguise
Wario enters the TV world and fights the evil Wanko king. Awesome 2D adventure. in this game wario can be a Super man, dragon, Artist (artist alows you to create sprites) and soo much more. Max your gold and grouchy ness and fight for fun. Available for nintendo DS.

Overrated:
3. Wii Sports.
Extremely boring spam fest. the only thing this game has to do with the experience is the wrist pains after.

2. IDK

1. SM3DWorld..... Ugh... this game is terrible. bad course design, wasted uses of powerups, extremely easy, not fun, lack of bosses, and the stuff nintendo boasts about this game has is only seen once in the entire game. Also the fact that this terrible game was dragged on for soooo long before the final world.

Post your Over/under rated games!!
(it doesnt only have to be 3)

Overrated:
- minecraft
Because annoying kids cant stop about it. (in irl actually)
- Five nights at freddies.
actually the same as minecraft. It just loses its magic when people try to make it look more then it truly is.

Underrated:
- most gba games, including:
- Avatar: the last airbender
Extremely fun puzzle game.
- BK grunties revenge
Some people say this is bad because it isn't exactly the same as the n64 counterpart. But I say well done for a gba game.

Underrated:
1. FREAKING Nintendo Land. I've seen exactly one other person talk about it on any of the ROM hacking forums I go to. It's like Wii Sports but better because it isn't a boring casual tech demo. Unfortunately, the single player games tend to be pretty lackluster but the co-op and competitive games are awesome. More people with friends should know about this game.

2. First person shooters in general. People assuming all FPS games are CoD is dumb but then again people used to call them 'Doom clones'. CoD itself isn't that bad in single player IMO but the multiplayer community is horribly toxic, since just about anyone that has a headset is going to be screaming racial slurs and general profanities while having a screechy, horrible voice that would make a banshee cry for mercy. But, there are other first person shooters (and I really should pick one up <_<).

3. Super Mario Galaxy 2 tends to not get as much love as its predecessor for some reason. I heard a very long time ago that it was because le expansion pack, but it's an awesome game that, despite being similar to SMG1, manages to be extremely unique and fun.

Overrated:
3. Smash 4. I dunno. It just kinda felt too much like Brawl 2 and le overpowered DLC makes online painful. It would be a good game if it had more originality but it's just Brawl but more.

2. Super Mario Bros. 3. The difficulty curve is lalaland at first and quickly jumps off the slippery slope into the 8th circle of hell. It's a creative game with neat enemies and a lot of power ups but far too many enemies sharply contrast the slippery physics and make the game too difficult to be fun.

1. fnaf :^)

I can't think of any underrated games (that I've played at least), but here's my top 3 overrated games:

3. Super Mario 3D World - I agree with Somebody Else about the level design for the most part, and power-ups were too little/too re-used. Overall though, it's ok.

2. Five Nights at Freddy's - It was great at first, until it spawned a fandom that utterly destroyed the game.

1. Call of Duty - Not that I'm speaking for all FPS games, but CoD is basically the FPS game crowded with 12 year olds screaming shit all over the place.

Edit: Oh yeah, Monkey Ball - It never seemed to get the credit it deserved.

Huh, so a thread such as this one does exist... :D

Overrated:
-Call of Duty series
These might've been good once upon a time, but there's no originality left at this point, so...
(Also the COD series is one of a handful of reasons for which I had no friends when I was in grade 1, so please excuse my personal bias)
-The Sims
I don't get this one. IMO it sounds about as fun as "Math Homework Simulator 2015" :/
(Also, EA's too busy making sure the next Sims DLC comes out before the game itself to notice how dry the Spore desert scene is becoming)
-Five Nights at Freddy's
Seriously, people. Shut up about this one. 2spooky4me by a long shot D:
(Biased once more, I find Star Bunnies creepy, so please forgive how prone I am to nightmares and the like)

Underrated:
-Spore
Yes, it didn't do a very good job of being an evolution simulator, but it did something better instead: it became a Creativity Amplifier! [It's also really fun to mod...]
-Switchball
Best. Marble-based. Puzzle. Game. Ever. Switchball is one of those marble-based puxxle games, but it puts a really unusual spin on that genre. Also, it has better physics and graphics than most next-gen console games do these days. And it was made in 2007!! Sadly, the game doesn't work on Windows 8 and newer, and is obtainable exclusively via piracy, as the official website ceased to exist a few years ago.
-The Conduit
There's Halo, there's COD, there's battlefield. 3 really popular FPS games. For whatever reason, no-one notices the Conduit. IMO the Conduit is one of those "hidden gem"-type games. It has an unusual plot, great gameplay, and some really amusing weapons. I have no words to describe it further. Oh, and it has a glitch to do this:

TELL ME YOU DON'T WANT THIS xD

Let's see... for underrated games they are too many to list, so I will be going with 3:

3. Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz for the Wii. Many people hates it because it switched design to a more cartoonish one. While the old design was better, this one doesn't look that bad. Also, the controls aren't that hard to get down once you get used to them, and the later levels are pretty cool, and the music is catchy.

2. Frogger: He's Back on the PS1. I've heard how people hates this game because it's too damn hard and its not like frogger anymore (except the first 5 levels). While is it indeed damn hard, I don't see the issue. It takes practice to get used to the game, but once you get it down, you can tackle the difficulty. The levels (except the first 5 which are the same as the arcade one) are pretty creative.

1. Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Yes, this game that many people hate because of its slippery controls. It just takes time to get used to them, and once you do, the controls are really flexible, so much in fact you can do stuff you're not even supposed to do. With 40 tracks to play on, this is the best single player Mario Kart out there.

Now, lets go to the overrated ones. Basically, I generally dont care of overrated series like fnaf, minecraft, and others. However, these 3 games are the ones that really set the bar because on what I hear of them, and after I played them, I never saw the thing in them. Do note that I played them all on the date their console generation was on.

Now, lets go, and lets see how many salt and disagreement I will cause :P

4. Super Mario Allstars. Now, this game sounded great at first. 4 remakes of the previous mario games. How it could go wrong? Well, for starters, SMB1 and TLL have this annoying physics bug when you hit a block when running. On all the other 2d mario games, you would continue moving horizontal without losing speed. Here, you COMPLETELY STOP and move a little bit up/ It disrupts gameplay, especialy on the underground levels.

Now for the other complains, TLL have the same graphics as SMB1. Was it so hard to update the unique trees and fences of the original FD game? I'ts not like theres no space. The game has a separate graphic bank for TLL, but instead they decided to copy paste them.

The other gripe is the level themes. Previously, on TLL and in SMB3, you had more variety and more palettes for the levels to feel different. TLL had the red levels and the grey ones, and SMB3 had sunset palette for the ocean world and that cool dark one for 8-1. Guess what? SMAS removed all of these and instead threw the generic ones already used in the game. Now theres no uniqueness, and all the levels feel the same. It may look pretty, but the setting and theme is another part of the game.

SMB2 was fine though.

3. Super Mario World. Yes, this game. Back when it came out, it was cool. However as the time progressed, I noted how it had some severely lacking in stuff compared to SMB3. The oveworld was great, and with hidden paths too. But, for th elevel themes, you dont have much. SMB3 had giant, snow, ocean, desert... while SMW just had the same theme with different palettes (grassland, 'choco island' which is just the same as the grassland tileset with a different coloration, cavern and forest)
Also the level design was bland for the most part. It didnt get interesting until that level in choco island in which you go somewhere else depending on the time.

All in all, its overrated. Not much to look into (other than yoshi and the cape), mainly because it was rushed as a release game.

2. Super Mario 64. Yes, you heard that right, I dont care what you think now, but this game already wore off its novelty a long time ago, its only the nostalgia bias keeping this game afloat. I remember when this came out. Me and my cousin were really excited to play this. The day came and we played it all day. It was great. However, after much better 3d platformer games came out, like Banjo kazooei, SM64 started to lose what made it special. Now, it really doesn't hold candle, and most people still hype about this game for some reason. The levels were mostly just giant cubes with stuff in the middle. Only nostalgia keeps this game afloat.

SM64DS was a bit better. With more areas and more characters to play on.

1. Mario Kart 64. This game... seriously. This is another of those games that nostalgia bias keeps this game afloat. I played this when it came out and the only good thing it has is the multiplayer, and just that. Single player mode is BS. Rubber band AI. Not to mention the game isnt well made. The red shells don't work on a lot of stages, the miraid of glitch shortcuts this game has, making things like wario stadium a race to see who can jump the wall first...

Thats the problem, atleast in super circuit, you can play alone, here, you need someone else. Oh and not to mention this Rainbow Road is the most overrated one. The music might be good, but the track itself sucks hard. Its prolongs too much, theres nothing else to worry about (other than the chomps), which makes it boring.

It's a creative game with neat enemies and a lot of power ups but far too many enemies sharply contrast the slippery physics and make the game too difficult to be fun.

Since brawl, smash wasn't original. The followed the same thing for 2 games for now (SSE was just a novelty)
Smash 4 is like how brawl should be: Working online mode, better gameplay. In that case, melee is the most overrated smash game :>

Also I dunno how SMB3 is difficult. It was the first game ever I played as a kid back in the days, and I managed to beat it. The difficulty started to kick in world 6. I don't see how the slippery physics tend to be a problem. Of all the hundred times I played that game, I never noted they were slippery (and its not like I wanted to not notice it, I mean, I noted the weird megaman physics that when you try to move, you first slighty move until you start running, and it was annoying on the jumping segments)

BTW, there should be a checkbox to disable the post layout :v

Also I dunno how SMB3 is difficult.

As I said, the physics were slippery. Compared to even SMB1, it's rather hard to control.

Not only that, but suddenly at the end of world 1 you get hit in the face with guys who never stop throwing hammers at you and absolutely require a powerup, and after that it's the airship which is a preview of nightmares to come.

Come world 2, and you've got a bunch of enemies you can't react to all that well. Jumping fire dudes frequently show up in block ledge pyramids making it unnecessarily hard to avoid them, chain chomps and the angry sun, two hard to dodge enemies with odd attack patterns, appear in this second world, not long after you start the game.

World 3? Oh no. Some how the water physics in SMB3 manage to be the worst I have ever had to suffer with and you've got to deal with half a world of the stuff if you can even get past the boss bass levels. Also, having an enemy that kills you if you get too close to the water would be infuriating enough if the game wasn't all floaty and slippery. I ended up ragequitting here every time and have never finished the game, in addition to considering it one of the most overrated games of all time.

And I do believe that it's one of those games where nostalgia value is one of the only things that lets it even be considered good nowadays. I can't stand the difficulty ""curve"" that lies to the player with easy levels and then dumps them into a catalyst of difficulty spikes only about 6 levels in, and expects the player to handle that immediately without foaming at the mouth from pure, unrestrained anger.

In short, the difficulty curve is bad and expects you to handle too much too soon in my opinion.

I considered putting this on my list since I got it fairly recently and ehh...it's a great game but it does have its shortcomings, particularly not bothering to work with the SMK engine they ported more. It would really be nice if they used a better drift system like the one in Double Dash, and possibly made the tracks a bit wider. Might just be me but it just felt way too strict.

If I had to guess, I'd say you haven't been playing SMB3 very long. Or on an NES for that matter.

Post about SMB3

I see.
This is the first time I see someone complain SMB3 is slippery. I wonder what other mario games you played before though.

But its true, the difficulty curve can be quite ruining experience. On a note about the chain chomps, they mostly only appear in world 2-5, in which is a level you can skip. As for the fire snake, you can just either go to the top of the pyramid blocks in 2-3, or jump high and move away in 2-1.

Perhaps is for the best then that you don't finish the game. World 6 and 7 might incite you to break everything around you :P

Post about MK:SC

Yeah, I suppose I can agree on that. It uses the SMK engine modified to fit in the GBA. I mean, the turbo glitch after hitting a wall with a speed boost and then stopping accelerating is in.

They should have used the drift system of MK64 though. Its the same as in all new games. You can rock left and right to charge.

And yeah, some tracks needs to be wider, but I didn't found a issue on the Super Circuit tracks for the most part, except in the bowser castle.

But I do wholly agree there with the SMK tracks. They feel so small, if you are using bowser you need to be perfect. Things like the ghost valley and vanilla lake tracks feel too small.

Well, perhaps the DS and GBA version.

I found out the first 2 games aren't that underrated and many people have at least played and liked the games.

Thanks for the support on the thread guys# :D

Here are some more Underrated games:
Spongebob: drawn to life (for Ds) this awesome game is... awesome! You can make custom textures on anything ingame, and make your own colorful characters! Awesome story with awesome platforming! This game was very successful but really in talked about.

Super Princess Peach: WARNING! WARNING! NOTELGIA OVER LOADDDD!

This game is awesome! Yoh go through great level design and platforming to rescue Mario from bowser. It may sound dull, but it's not! You can use Peach's Flame, water, happyness, and more of her amazing powers. Use your Umbrella to sore threw the air and with amazing graphics... omg just buy this game!

Mario Sports Mix:
This game is epic. You have control of almost every Mario character! Play Hockey, basketball, dodge ball, and volley ball! Unleash awesome powers like bowsers flame rush, and more violent attacks that go with there character!

Now for over ratted. (This will be fun)...

3. New super Mario Bros 2
If this game didn't ruin your childhood nothing will. I mean seriously, 6 worlds? Terrible mini extra worlds? And coin rush sucks! There are time boosters up the wazo and many powerups! I'm suprised this game is even playable! How is this game fun? How can Nintendo publish this?! How can this game with like 3 new sprites be a sequel to NSMBDS?

2. Idk... legit I don't know ...

3. Dead realm. Jeez this game sucks. Want to play a shitty horror game that involves you being chased by harden Knomes? (Yes I know they arnt knomes and are "demon babys" but they look like knomes). The graphics in this game suck. It looks like Im playing G_Mod! The jumps cares are funny, and... just no. It's given too much credit for a game that's as good as the Fnaf Fanbase

Underrated:

Mod Nation - All I've seen is hate for this game. But in my opinion it is a awesome game being able to create your own tracks and characters.

Overrated:
Ocarina of time - It's just a game who cares if you don't like it.

3.Donkey Kong (Gameboy) This is, in my opinion, the best game on the Gameboy/ GBC PERIOD. It's a puzzle platformer that starts of by tricking you into thinking that it's just a port, but then it turns to be so much more. There are 9 worlds, over 90 levels, and lots of awesome puzzles. This game also introduced the backflip, side somersault, and triple jump for Mario, and was the first game where DK had a tie. Seriously, it's a crime this game doesn't get discussed more often.

2. Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks. This game gets quite a bit of criticism in large part because there are trains. Seriously, if you look past that one bit, then you'll find one of the most creative Zelda games, with awesome items (dat Whip though) and dungeons.

1.Damned if I know.

Super Mario 64, the most overrated game of all time, by people who are blinded by nostalgi-*shot*

Five Nights At Freddy's is also quite overrated. Just shut up about it already, please. It's not that special. There are plenty of other horror games like it.
oops

As for underrated, I agree with MercuryPenny. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is similar to the original because that's the whole point. Yes, it could have been more original, but the whole idea was that people wanted more Super Mario Galaxy. That's what we got, and then people complain about it being unoriginal. "Unoriginal" is what you wanted, idiots. .___.

For underrated I'd probably also say Super Mario Galaxy 2. In my opinion it was a pretty nice game, and I feel like the only reason people hate it is because it's not a 1:1 clone of the first game. Yoshi was fun to control, and the levels were fun (<3 Hightail Falls). I guess my only complain is the bosses which were not very memorable, like Giga Lakitu, Glamdozer, and Squizzard.

(Now you can put Over Hated games if you like)

Underratted: Splatoon. I mean only 2 million Copys Sold?
Splatoon isn't a rip off of CoD it's fun and is Enjoyable. I mean who doesn't like Squids slapp'n each others with PaintBall guns. Snippers, machine guns, Bazookas, Tanks (aka rollars), and Pistols (aka OctoNozzle).

Overrated: Super Mario world. It's not that great guys.Sure it's fun but not a fricken game made by The king of Jordan. It'a fun and Great but shouldn't be this pamperd.

Over Hated: Mine craft. It's fan base isn't that bad (not like fnaf). You can Bootleg Amy game possible with command blocks (even Splatoon check out sethbling) and there are awesome Servers like mine plex where u can play Block Hunt, bomb wats, and more!
