also, you can post the same kind of dynamic images in posts, or in any place that accepts external images really

even if they try to filter image extensions, you can make your server redirect http://derp.com/supercrap.png to http://derp.com/funkyshit.php for example

scrolling in Facebook: never try to use the scrollbar slider thing directly

as you reach the bottom, it loads more shit and makes the page jump forward in a rather derpy way

thank the morons who invented infinite scrolling

oh well atleast they haven't yet felt the need to invent their own hip scrollbar to replace the browser's

I use duckduckgo rather than Google. They use the "load more" infinite scrolling bullcrap for their search results.

At least they're consistent with the infinite scroll crap, but c'mon can't we get an option for pagination?

atleast with search results you typically don't go far at all

infinite/loadmore scrolling would suck big time for a messageboard

and social networks are all about consuming fresh new content, so no viewing very old content for you

I've expressed concern over the idea of messageboards using infinite scroll. I haven't seen any yet, but it's troubling that infinite scroll might invade there too.

I wouldn't be surprised if already bloated crap like vBulletin starts using it

it would be really unfitting to a classic messageboard, so I doubt it, I wouldn't be surprised to see some weird hipster board using it though

also something I hate, which all websites use:

browsers are able to run Javascript at any damn time to speed up things, you can make use of it by placing your JS code tags judiciously in the HTML

BUT

the web hispters have decided that doing so is bad and wrong somehow, and that a) you may not use JS outside of <head> and b) you may not run any JS until every damn thing has fully loaded

which results in a ton of inconveniences:

* on Youtube, not possible to open a video's description before everything has loaded

* RVL is guilty of it too with the post toolbar buttons

* a site I go to that has a dumb banner that is shown and then conditionally removed via JS (if you have a certain cookie set). As a result it's present for a while before going away.

* on the same site, some extra content boxes added via JS, but only after everything has loaded, which makes the page jump around every damn time. I adblocked them.

What about the web trends of linking to websites with clickbait titles that just make you scroll through 100 pages to find what you wanted to see?

I don't understand how clickbait titles even generate clicks.

I mean... how...? They look stupid. Even the ones that are relevant to my interests.

ya they always come off as obnoxious rather than interesting

they also spread their content over the most pages possible to generate more clicks

I'm fine with HTTPS/SSL, but enforcing it...?
https://www.openprovider.com/ssl-program/

I mean, HTTPS is necessary for stuff like Web Shops, but definitely not for simple Blogs, in my opinion.

Xkeeper says that it also ensures you're talking to the actual website and not a bogus clone spreading malware.

I don't see why anyone would want to replace this board with a bogus clone, though. And from what I get, such attacks would be specific to the target as you'd have to poison the specific DNS they're using. As far as spreading malware goes, hacking into the server would be more productive, and HTTPS doesn't prevent that.

aaaaand we do more than bitch about those sites!

today we give the webmaster a big middle finger with the following Greasemonkey script:
var derpo_ad = document.getElementById('pw_adbox_77830_5_0');
derpo_ad.parentNode.removeChild(derpo_ad);
var krapo = document.createElement('div');
krapo.style.display = 'none';
document.body.appendChild(krapo);
krapo.appendChild(derpo_ad);
derpo_ad.innerHTML = "<div style=\"height:60px;width:100px;\">fuck you</div>";
derpo_ad.style.height = "62px";
derpo_ad.style.width = "102px";
derpo_ad.style.display = "block";
derpo_ad.style.visibility = "";

too bad those are going to be site-specific, though

Greasemonkey is pretty much the bane of shitty web design. For instance, I made a to top button for twitter in greasemonkey since it uses infinite scroll and and its a pain to scroll back up when you get new tweets. Its simple, but i've found myself using it quite a bit.
