Me and Galaxy-Hacker were working on another texture hack tonight for Super Mario Galaxy 2. This time, he helped me customize a Mario hat and pretty much change it into a different type. I changed the color to Light Blue and was successfully able to replace the M Emblem with a Yoshi Egg Emblem. All it needs now is a small red feather on top in the front and it'll be given that style of a hat you'd see in bands and what have you, which is why I gave it that nickname. I know it's a little unusual for a hack, but at least I want to get somewhere.
Is there any way that can be done to customize a red feather onto the hat? I mean, it may be impossible, but it can be worth a try. And another thing. I'd also like to try to get the customized hat to fit on Yoshi's head. But is there any way possible that can be done to have him wear it via ASM hacking? We'd have to edit Yoshi's model via importing and thus add in the hat, but I am not sure how that can work. Please see if you can help us out here. We'll gladly appercicate it. |

There are no existing tools to do that, you'd have to manually edit the BDL to add in more polygons and the new texture. ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

And tho I'm really not a hacker on SMG2, it would take a lot of time. |

How is it possible to edit the BDL file of the hat on BMDView? Or do you have to use another program for that? |

Posted by Blue-Tora BMDView2 cannot edit files. There are also no programs that can add new polygons to a model. ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

Unless if I was to use a program that exports 3DS files and use some program like Google Sketchup to make the feather. Would that work? |

Posted by Blue-Tora If you wanted to add new polygons, you would have to export the whole model and reimport, which loses all materals (which you kinda need for Mario) ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

You'd have to export as 3DS and import to Blender so it doesn't lose its shadows and vertex colors (if it does, then you have to add new shadow using dark vertex colors). Then you have to add the cap. When you're done you have to export it as OBJ then convert it to BDL. When you have done that, the BDL will just have 1 joint. Open Yoshi's original model in a hex editor and copy the JNT1 section and replace the reimported Yoshi's JNT1 section with that one.
It would eventually work. But I doubt that it would look beautiful, but who knows. |

Posted by Blue-Tora Know how to use the program, that's pretty much it. All you need is 2 polygons - a rectangle triangulated with a feather texture mapped on it. ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

Import Yoshi's 3DS to Blender with the hat and put it on him and export everything as 1 model. |

If I were you I would just spare my time and put it customly in the bdl. you only have to change a few pointers. |

Posted by Blue-Tora Not as far as I know, you need to modify several sections to get it to map correctly. ____________________ "I hate playing musical chats" ~ Quote of the month |

well... you can do it fast if you know how the file works. otherwise, if you cannot understand stuff like hex, this is probably going to be a pain. |
