Discuss ideas for the first star here, but read the main design topic for this galaxy for ideas.

Star 1: Rolling to the Rhythm

Planet 1:

Mario flies from the Starship and lands safely on the first planet of this new galaxy. This planet is made up of three musical objects that are connected: A snare drum, a xylophone, and a speaker. Around the planet are sticks and mallets for the percussion as decoration.

On this planet, Mario is reunited with the Rock mushroom for the first time in this game. He rolls across the xylophone to the large speaker portion of the planet, and sees that a luma is trapped in a glass dome. Also on the speaker are a bunch of octoombas that are dancing side by side in three separate lines. Mario must roll them all over to free the luma. Surrounding the speaker are fences to stop Mario from falling off. When the luma is freed, he thanks Mario and turns into a launch star, shooting Mario into the sky. In the air Mario goes through three triangles in a line for decoration.

Planet 2:

No longer Rock Mario, our hero lands on a rock platform, and in front of him is a giant bongo drum. On the side of this giant planet are rock ledges to help Mario get to the top. After scaling two ledges, Mario finds a purple block train like in Boo Moon Galaxy. This train of blocks goes around the drum once doing little tricks to throw Mario off. If he survives, Mario makes it to the top of the drum. On this drum is again the Rock Mushroom, many enemies, and breakable rock pillars. There is also a silver chomp! Hiding in the pillars and enemies are five star chips that are needed to proceed. This is easily one of the most difficult parts of the level, because not only is there a silver chomp, but there are mo walls! Mario has to be very careful not to fall off or be killed by the chomp.

Section A:

If Mario DOES make it, a launch star will appear, taking Mario's power up and sending him to a small, 2D section. While in the air, Mario will hit a ? coin, which will prove useful in this section. This section is actually a few measures from the classic overworld theme! The notes are platforms, and other parts of the score are included included behind the notes as decoration.

Because Mario hit the ? coin, a small rainbow note will rest on each platform note. Of course, touching the rainbow notes creates the appropriate note sound for each platform note. For example, the first note in the picture is an E (I play Bb clarinet so that is how I read it, it will be something else in concert pitch)
So, the rainbow note on that first platform will also be an E sounding note. This will therefore make the overworld theme if they are hit. If all notes are hit before they disappear, then a life mushroom appears. At the end of this small section is a sling star to take Mario to the next planet.

Planet 3:

The regular music for this galaxy quickly fades away, and the beat block theme kicks in. Yes, this is a beat block section with Rock Mario!

This planet is composed of lines of beat blocks connected by little instruments. However, the beat block chains are too long to be crossed by walking in time. Mario has to roll across with perfect timing! The first and second lines of blocks are quite simple, only increasing in length by one or two blocks. However, the third is more difficult. There is a rock pillar blocking the way! Mario has to break this pillar quickly, then either jump back or forward so he doesn't fall. Once he reaches the little harmonica there, he has to roll some more. There are two chains connected this time. However, they are different colors, so Mario must perfectly time his rolls. The first chain is perfectly long so that Mario finishes rolling at the end. There are also drum sticks blocking the way, so Mario has to perform a rolling jump to prevent crashing and ths falling when the beat blocks switch. This difficult section ends with a launch star to the final planet.

Planet 4:

This arena like planet is actually a big, old fashioned record. This record has a giant hole in the middle, and is surrounded by the bouncy fences from A Stroll Down Rolling Lane. There are also octoombas galore that, when defeated, produce a power star! Mario has to roll around to defeat them too! This is because right before this planet is a "Music Stand" Ramp, and the area that makes infinite rolling applies to this final planet! What this means is that Mario, having to roll to reach the record, cannot stop rolling! He bounces around the planet crazily, and has to jump over the hole many times without falling off. Again, if the enemies are defeated, Mario's troubles are over, and he grabs the power star (Still rolling of course!)

And there's my full design for star 1! Feedback and questions are appreciated, and I'll soon be working on star 2.

-MC

I think the "planets" are great. Though they are more of areas but whatever. I think it's a thorough design, and with concept art, we could easily revise this and start making it now.

That's an excellent design. I don't think we'll find a better one than that, TBH. ;)
Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

I have concept art... Unless you mean, with the concept art I made?

And yes, I would love to start revising as soon as possible

Yeah, that was worded weird. I was saying that COMBINED WITH the concept art, we could.

Considering you're a musician MC, I would assume you know that a xylophone is made out of wood, and the instrument pictured in planet one is a glockenspiel ;)

As regards to the design, very good :) Some bits seem a bit... difficult (Planet 3) but definitely a very thorough and well-made design. Good job :D

Not only am I good with music, but I take German xD I've failed on two levels with that

And yes, I know the difficulty is up there for world 3, but hey, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it

It looks really nice, but the design is missing a few of the ideas we talked about, such as the spiral keyboard and trumpets and stuff. Also I appreciate the beat block idea, but it's way, WAY too hard for a player to actually pull off. Especially when taking into account the lag when you start rolling as rock Mario. Instead, I think the galaxy should end with an infinite rolling section like melty monster, although it will be easier. You could roll through trumpets, across the keyboard, on top of drums... etc. Also don't forget to make use of the drums and cymbols already in the game!

Glem I understand your concern. HOWEVER, people need to understand that all of that stuff is going to be in star 2. Like, literally everything you mentioned glem.

Also, I just learned that rock mario DOES work in 2d, so I'm going to extend that 2d section to be longer and include rock Mario.

Yeah, I agree with Glem3 though...
There doesn't seem to be much variety in the instruments. I mean, there's a lot of drums and stuff.
The beat block...yeah...
I dunno, I just think that Star 1 should be more "wow" and for show than Star 2...
