So we're not using the run-across-the-bridge idea, huh?

No, because Dash Yoshi is going to be introduced in the Fast Food Galaxy.

But can we have mario long jump through the bridge for speed?

Duh, people are free to long jump if they want.

Oh and didn't I tell you to not post silly crap like that, in another thread? Because it applies to the whole board.

I think this should be our main focus galaxy right now. It's got a good design so far, and we just need to make the "model jump".

Well the bridge is broken in this galaxy and you would have LONG JUMP to get across and no you DIDN'T tell me not to post silly crap like that. Other people do it too, so stop acting like I'm the only one! Now back to topic, I think the second star should have comets shooting out of the chasm just to mix it up.

I did, but it's in this very thread, actually.

The comets shooting out thing sounds like more of an aesthetic background element more than a level mechanic, if it's even possible.

Yes. I was thinking of the "comets" being that background shooting star effect, plus loads of those real shooting stars that drop starbits upon landing.
Possibly, Star 1- Escaping the chasm
Star 2- Crossing the chasm

Edit: Does anybody want to design it? This seems to have the most different ideas in W1.
-A huge round planet with a huge chasm in it
-A village of Yoshis
-a broken bridge across a chasm

Well of course, the first world or so will spam starbits at you.

I got an idea for this galaxy. So basically, Mario lands in a dry area with dead grass and such. Then, he sees a yoshi egg trapped in a barrier from a Latiku in a mud/tar pit. Once you free Yoshi for the first time, he says, "Woah-ho! Hey Mario, I just came here to see my ancestors' tribe, but then got trapped in that egg by Bowser's baddies. Say, let's team up and find out what's going on!" So you walk across a dead-dirty field seeing dinosaur bones and enemies, etc. You then wonder, "Has this place been alive before?" You then see a tiny village with Yoshi NPCs and green-alive grass. (The other yoshis will be different colored from green, so we know which yoshi is ours.) You see a different color yoshi in front of the village and he says, "Hey! Wanna hear the history of this land?" You pick 'Sure!' or 'Gotta go...' If you pick sure, he says: "Centuries ago, many dinosaur species lived here, including us. One day, one species of dinosaurs got mad at another, and they fought, soon all the other species got involved. We were neutral, and wanted to end their feuds, but they didn't listen. Soon, a huge comet appeared and wiped out most of this land. It created a huge chasm, and made most of this land dead and dry. Us Yoshis were probably unaffected because of our kindness and respect for one another. This is most likely why the piece of land around our village is alive and filled with yummy fruit!" Besides the backstory, there is another problem at hand. As Yoshi said, Bowser's baddies are there. Some other Yoshis tell you that they have been invaded by the baddies, and they have no choice but to fight back. Some of them are terrified and say they don't want a comet to take them out as well. Which is why, Mario and Yoshi must save the day!

Alright I personally think this conecept/micro-design would be very accurate for this galaxy. Let me add some more to it. After strolling along in the village, Mario and Yoshi find the Elder Yoshi NPC. He says, "We've been having problems with things in the chasm. Sometimes at night, I see enemies climb out of it. Please go ahead and figure this out!" Then you find the Launch Fruit. Yoshi pulls off the fruit and eats it, thus, turning into a launch star. You blast off in the launch star and land on another planet. On this planet, you see a huge canyon/gap which is the chasm created by the comet. You follow a path that leads you down into the abyss, finding some enemies there as well. You use Yoshi's skills such as Flower Grappling to find your way through the abyss of the chasm. You then find the core of it all. (Not exactly sure about this part, I need feedback's help.) An oversized Magikoopa with some other ones near it. Behind them, the Star trapped inside a shield/barrier that requires the obliteration of the Magikoopas. Here's the gimmick that requires Yoshi. Each Magikoopa is high upon tall rocks. Mario cannot reach them on his own. After the Magikoopas throw a fireball and/or goomba, they move around. Their path is only among the tall rocks. But, there are grappling flowers near the rocks to help you get up to reach them. Once you defeat them all, the Star's shield goes away, and it is yours.

Yoshi NPCs? Is it safe to be working stuff like that into current designs?

Yes ._. That will be one of the first things we will probably go for in terms of reverse engineering

How will we program the AI for Yoshi? Its never been done in a 3D mario game.

It works the exact same way as any other NPC. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Yep.
Only thing is, the huge Magikoopa...
It should probably be just slightly larger (killing a huge one with one hit would be anticlimatic), and be on higher columns than the rest.
Wait, the Goombas will just fall down. The magikoopas won't be attacking very well.
Hmm.

EDIT: Well, the Goombas could fall onto the columns and be effective...Eh. Great idea.

He did mention "an oversized" one.
Meh.
Anyway, this galaxy should be only of the most important ones in W1. Ideally, it should be designed quickly. Any takers?
