Spinies - they would fit well.
Lakitu - we might save him for StormShine.

That'd be a bit uncreative. I say we save him for another galaxy (The King Lakitu)

What happened to my original idea of a huge planet with a huge crack in it? It would fit in with the fossils Easter Egg.
The village could be near the chasm as the secomd half of the star, the first half being Mario accidently launched into the gap and needing to find his way back up with the help of Yoshi, who was exploring, but fell off.

There's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, it's usually an oncoming express train.

Slow and steady gets you trampled by the other guys.

I fail to imagine what it would look like. It'd need to be insanely, out-of this world-ly big for that chasm to be the main attraction of the level. How about starting off in a planet inside the humungous chasm?

Yep. Most of the planet and chasm won't really be explored in detail, though, so the poly count shouldn't be too big of a problem.
There shouldn't be any planets floating in it. That'd spoil the Grand Canyon effect.
Like, the first part of my design (on page 1), set at the bottom, with the second half replaced by NSK's idea, set at the top. Possibly a bridging climbing section too.

Oh, and Star 2 will probably be crossing the chasm. I don't think there should be a boss here.
Using King Lakitu here...also in the first Yoshi galaxy? No.

So we would just have the inside of the canyon to work with...? Isn't this a 3-star galaxy?

No...
Star 1 could be getting out of the chasm (freeing a Luma, hunting for a key in the mud and Goombas at the bottom), then a brief cliff climbing section, then a village of Yoshis...?
Star 2 could be crossing the chasm, using Yoshi flowers, Paragoombas, etc.
Star 3...secret star or comet

This should be contrasting with Yoshi Star, though. Down-to-earth level could work.

If it will be contrasting, use dark brown or black rock. It will look a bit sinister.

It doesn't have to be sinister. A dry, archeological feel would work quite well, with some bones and a prehistoric vibe. Black and brown rock could benefit largely (like the idea). We could also use the Stallord fight as an example. But the feel should also have enough of a thrill that the galaxy isn't dark. This is W1 :P

A nice blue sky would be enough to take away the sinister feel. It would be like visiting a canyon.

A canyon that is a bit darker than the first galaxy, but retains an upbeat feel. The music should not be sinister by any means.

What exactly is Stallord?

I think it was from Legend of Zelda as the boss of Arbiter's Ground, looking like Gobblegut, except skeletal...I think.
Anyway, would the huge chasm general plan be good?

I need visuals to decide, can you draw what you're thinking somehow? I'm having a hard time envisioning the depth and width of the chasm D:

I always envisioned the actual chasm as being part of the background, with the level taking place on planets in the middle. Kinda like a daytime version of Shiverburn's HellValleySky.
Status: It was really, really fun, guys - thanks for the ride!

That would require lots of retexturing and particle removal if we are to do that.

This galaxy can be reminiscent of the star festival. One of the toads can say "This sure reminds of the star festival!" Maybe we could have meat with fire on it to make it more memorable if you know what I mean.

No. Just no. This isnt supposed to be related to the star festival at all. >_<

For the meat thing I dont think it has code in SMG2, and its waay to minor for us to bother to import :P
