I can load and move stuff around fine in galaxys, but when I click the type of object I want to add, it gives me an error that says:an unhandled exception error has occurred: node has no children
white hole is unstable and it is recommended that you close it now

It also tells me to report this along with a detailed report enclosed in "whiteholecrash.txt" but that file doesn't exsist.

Do you open whitehole directly from the .zip?

I was deleting some silver stars and the program froze.

Ah. Are you using the v1.1 release?

Actually, It's all been extracted to a folder, so no. But I am running the java file rather than the exe since the exe tells me I don't have java installed when I try launching it. But since I can run the programme and load galaxies then I surely have right?

anyway could that be whats causing my problem?

v1.1 of Whitehole has a object deletion bug in it, which will crash the program when you hit the delete button.

Ok, I'm actually really fed up with levels freezing if you EDIT A SINGLE PATH IN ANY WAY. This needs to be fixed. Seriously. I don't see SMG hacking going ANYWHERE unless this is fixed.

Please, please, fix this. I cannot emphasise this as a priority any more.

I can't play SMG2 AT ALL until this is fixed.

If it's that important to you, why don't you try to fix it yourself?

I agree that the issues that plague Whitehole are annoying, and make it much less of a useful tool than it could be. But I hate it when people make a big deal out of an issue and/or nag me about it. Fixing issues isn't always easy. Especially not when you have shit motivation :/

Look, I really don't want to nag you. :P

But I am incapable of fixing this bug. Simply the knowledge that currently the very purpose of the program is basically void should be enough motivation to get it done.

I know that MrRean is attempting a fix in his custom build. I really would help you if I could, and always feel ungrateful after asking you for so many things.

I know. I just hate when people make a big deal out of issues, even if they render the program useless.

I will look into it someday. But my motivation to work on Whitehole is kinda low, too. You see, there's no interest for SMG hacking outside of SMG2.5, and not like SMG2.5 is going fast, either. And for now, most of the effort is spent designing and modelling.

Well I'm sorta doing some of it right now, fixing rendering stuff and shit. But blah, I really can't put it on the repo because I don't have access to the repo and editing the stuff inside of it.

Anyways, blah. This is for reporting issues.

Then you don't belong in the world of programming / development. Hating on people because they complain of a bug that renders the program useless is just plain ignorant. They have the right to complain when the program won't even work as "advertised". I've just lost faith in Whitehole / you.

What do you mean YOUR motivation? You think programmers just stop programming their software because they've lost motivation? NO! Just look at WordPress, SMF, etc and I'm sure that at one time or another they've lost motivation because their software is free, but they continued on because the community uses their software. If you don't want to work on Whitehole, the please, please announce that Whitehole is no longer in development by you and that the community can develop it.

1. I have no problems with people reporting issues, especially if said issues are severe enough to render the program unusable. What I hate is when they make a big deal out of it. YOU MUST FIX THIS NAO!!1!1!1!1!1111 >_<

2. Those projects are run by teams of programmers. For Whitehole, where do you see a team? I'm mostly alone. Besides, the code is in a Git repo, so if people want to contribute, they can fork it and then send pull requests at any time. Dirbaio did it a while ago, and MrRean's doing it currently.

Now I advise you shut up because you obviously have no idea what it is to develop software. Or how depressing it is to be alone working on something noone cares about (that's why I gave up on SM64DSe).

Well, it's pretty clear that people care about Whitehole right now and that its current bugs are what are holding us back from finishing the level creation faster.

Blah this thread is derailing with unneeded arguments.

Back onto the topic for this thread: BUG REPORTING.

Exactly! The reason people don't have "interest" in hacking SMG is because they're UNABLE to do so.

Advising me to shut up? Because I have "no idea what it is to develop software"?

1. Don't tell anyone to shut up!
2. I DO know what it's like to develop software, and I have witnessed two wrong ways to do it:
2a: RealStudio's transition into Xojo. RealStudio kept promising the basic 64 bit-support since 2011, and Xojo still doesn't have it.
2b: A worse example is Artisteer. Basically no communication, updates their software right at or after user's licenses expire, and their "upgrades" basically have no features at all.

Hell, even I have programmed some small apps to test my knowledge and stopped because my knowledge and focus skills were pretty limited. So, yes, I do know what it takes to develop software.

1. Think you're better than everyone? Fine! Code us an amazing SMG editor, Mr Genius!
2. In case you missed it, I run the board you're posting on. You shouldn't be giving me orders.
3. You're basically comparing Whitehole, which is free open-source software, with two sharewares developed by companies. It's like comparing apples and oranges. The development methods employed vary wildly. Company developers are professionals, who get paid for their work. I'm making Whitehole for one main reason: because making that kind of stuff is like a hobby for me. I do not owe you anything.

Now, back on topic. Continue derailing this thread with your silly argument and you'll face the consequences.
