I'm actually quite sad about this. Online is the sole reason I ever played Mario Kart Wii (it's what gives the replay-ability for me), and it's also my only source of practice for offline Brawl tournaments. Yes, I know Brawl's wi-fi servers suck and it can get to the point where it goes like 3 frames a minute, but it's better than nothing. I can't go to the local Smashfests since they're rather far for me and my parents would not let me out. No one at my school plays Smash (and even then, NOWHERE near my level)... I'm really gonna miss Brawling with my friends and the online tourneys my friends will host. :/ I need to Brawl with you guys again (whether we play competitively or not) before the servers go down. =P I kind of wish they'd do this like 1 year after Mario Kart 8/Smash 4 releases instead or something. :/ ____________________ Yo-YO, let's GO! I agree. We should set a Kuribo64 Tournament or something where we all plan a certain date and time or something. It really will be sad to see the end of MKW and SSBB Online. |

Would be awesome if you could set up the servers for the games and then use homebrew to connect to those instead of Nintendo servers.
That way online would not be gone and you can "somewhat" choose who to play with. |

Posted by mariogalaxythree It's been said like six times that technically capable fans (like MrBean35000vr) are setting up custom servers that can be accessed through hacks. Not to say that it's certain that they'll succeed, but the chances are pretty high. And project M was only WiFi compatible with friends, anyway. I was going to post this thread right now, but you beat me to it.
Anyway, I can't believe they are doing this. The channels that use internet like Nintendo Channel, Check Mii out channel, ect. has been canceled, and now this. Pretty much the reason is that lots of people use the 3DS and Wii U now. But it's really not fair. I mean, what about the guys who can't afford the 3DS and Wii U like me? So, what I will do is enjoy the last days of Wii/DS Wi-fi before it shuts down. I will really miss playing Mario Kart Wii online. ____________________ Mom: You had a party while we were gone? Bean is making a CTGP server thing off of his own computer to compensate for this. The only thing is you won't be able to play the original Mario Kart Wii online anymore, it has to be CTGP, which to be fair is a thousand times better, because you get all the original tracks plus new ones and new remakes.
As for brawl, I bet bean or someone else will compensate as well. |

There's no real way to have vanilla MKWii connect to another server than the one that was programmed in, though.
