obj2bdl is a command line program that converts Wavefront OBJ files to BDL files that can be used in SMG1/2.

Check the README for info on how to use the program.

The program also supports an extended version of Wavefront OBJ format that includes vertex colors. To export models to this format you need blender with the Extended Wavefront OBJ exporter add-on (which is included in the download) installed. To install this add-on place the io_scene_extened_obj folder in your blender add-on folder and enable it under the Add-On tab of the User Preferences window. For more information on how to do this look here.

I have only released the program as a python script, which you need Python 3 with PyQt4 installed to run.

Thanks for those tools :)

Also, mind if I upload them to a stable place (like our uploader) while we have a working link? Those are currently a pain to find. All the links I've come across say 'file deleted'.

You mean the EXE? Yeah, all the links I could find were dead, which is why I didn't include a link in the post. It should definitely br uploaded somewhere more stable.

The EXE, yeah, but having the source Python script would be nice too. So we can have an idea how to write BDL's. And because closed source software has no place in ROM hacking.

Sure, the source can be uploaded as well. The link I gave should be stable, but having the EXE and source at same place might be a good idea.

I've released a minor update to this. The new version allows for more triangles per model and fixes the inverted texture issue. The download link is in the first post.

Nice blank!
I wonder if I'll be able to convert my whole model this time, instead of having to cut it in 3 pieces :P
Good job!

Can someone make a tutorial on how to effectively use to Python version? I use to use the exe but now it's outdated and it doesn't seem to work anymore.

Under Creating the BDL, and the way I export is above if you need that.

Are you serious? You don't need to...just install it using the exe, and that will all work.

Or use the exe, if you're really lazy.

Arcanine, the fix you made does not work and in fact completely breaks the program. Also, what is a line material?

The exception is caused by faces that do not have texture coordinates, which shouldn't be a problem as the README states that the entire model has to be uv-textured.

I don't understand then. The value it's spitting out is because there's some form of lines because it's not 3 values (IE 1/2/3) instead what I've seen looking at the model file in a text editor is 2/3 or some form like that, and that's what makes it break. Or at least, that's what I understand it to be.

Vertices of the from 2/3 works for me. If you think you have an example where it doesn't, try uploading it and I'll take a look at it.
