Normal character files for Battle for Bikini Bottom are stored as RenderWare .dff models (see here http://www.spriters-resource.com/community/showthread.php?tid=20770). SDF may be a compressed version of this. If it is compressed it probably uses some variant of the LZW algorithm. It may also be some format used by the RenderWare engine.

I've had it for a few months and much prefer 7. It wouldn't let me upgrade but gave no reason why so I had to do a DVD install which failed the first time getting stuck in a boot loop. My touch pad now doesn't work properly even though it was fine before and works fine in Linux. My HDMI also now has problems - it won't let me duplicate screens anymore and sometimes just crashes for no reason requiring a reboot. It didn't work properly with one of my USB3 ports and overall I see no improvement over 7. I haven't downgraded because it'd be too much hassle and I use OpenSUSE most of the time.

Weird. I dont have any of those problems. My HDMI works, touchpad works, and all usb work. Make sure you have the drivers for all those.
AND if that doesnt help, maybe your laptop's motherboard doesn't support windows 8.
I did update all of my drivers before installing and after. It's quite a recent laptop so it should work and the manufacturer has released Windows 8 drivers for it.

2017/04/14: I have released the source code and assets for importing F.L.U.D.D. into SM64DS.
2018/05/26: I have uploaded the level models.
2018/05/26: I have uploaded all custom objects, SM64DSe level maps and all source code

The code is available at the following Github repo.: https://github.com/Fiachra1993/SuperMarioSunshine64DS

Super Mario Sunshine 64 DS is a Super Mario 64 DS hack I am currently working on. I'll be porting levels from Mario Sunshine and making new stars for them. I'll be working first on simplifying the models so the DS can handle them as this is the most time consuming part and then I'll start adding stars etc.

Completed models:

Anyways, the level collision looks great!

EDIT: What about modeling the unused SMS levels; Erto Rock, Hotel Lacrima, Warship Island/Battleship Island, Fire Shrine/Flame Temple, and Lighthouse Island?

Yeah, blank did a great job figuring it out.

There are no models available for those unused levels, they're just names of train stations.

Yes, I know they are only text. I can type designs for those levels if you want me to.

If you've designs for extra levels I'd like to hear them. I could maybe use them for where the challenge (no fludd) levels were meant to be or as secret bonus levels or something. Just be aware though, I'll be doing the original levels first which'll take a good while.

Added support for fog objects:

Offset Size Description
00 1 Density. 0- No Fog, 1 - Show Fog
01 1 RGB Red Value
02 1 RGB Green Value
03 1 RGB Blue Value
04 2 Fog start distance. Divide by 1000 to get value
06 2 Fog end distance. Divide by 1000 to get value

You can add, edit and delete them.
You can also edit minimap scale values but not delete them as the game crashes when you do. They must be referenced somewhere else.

uhh... is it possible to use SM64DSe WITHOUT downloading a rom?

If you don't want to download a ROM you can make a backup of an original cartridge of the game. You'll need a DS and a flash cart though.

BTW, dont call it mb/s. Its not really mb/s, its mbps (difference is that one is bytes, and another one is bits per second.

X/s or Xps and X·s^(−1) is the same thing - amount of X per second.

Mb/s or Mbps or Mb·s^(−1) = Megabits per second.
MB/s or MBps or MB·s^(−1) = MegaBytes per second.

Although, it's better to use Kibibits and Mebibits (1024x instead of 1000x).

Nice specs! You might wanna upgrade your video card if you game on your pc.

I got it refurbished from Dell Outlet for about £450 (~€510) cheaper than buying it new! I can't upgrade the graphics card as it's a laptop but it runs Wii games in Dolphin full speed at 720p so I don't mind :)

it's ok.

EDIT: how can we legally distribute edited ROMs?

We can't distribute the ROMs themselves, you have to make a patch that people can apply to their ROM, for example xdelta patches, which are quite popular with NDS ROM hacking.

Also, stay on topic please.

uhh... how do you replace a level's model?

it keeps freezing on me

EDIT: works, but I can't texture it, and it looks wierd...

You need to make sure you remove (or edit) texture animation - Texture Animation>Remove All so the game doesn't freeze.

Texture images need vertically flipped before importing (just the images, not in the model).

If you're talking about within the editor, it's either because their not 256-colour indexed images, (and/)or there's something wrong with your .mtl file (probably Kd values).

If you mean within the game it's either the above reasons or there are too many textures - reduce their size - the DS can't handle many and messes them up if there are too many.

Also, when asking for help, you need to be much clearer, is it the editor or the game that freezes? In what way do they look weird? etc.

Don't use test map b - it makes the player a brick block for some reason. Try another level.

The editor freezes if there are too many materials (over 256, if this is the case there are likely duplicates, export with meshlab to remove them) or it can't find either the specified image file or the material referenced in the mtllib.

If your computer's slow it'll take a while to import, during which it'll appear frozen. This is with any model.

Also make sure your scale isn't too large that you're actually inside the model.

If it's still not working I'd need to see the model, you can PM it and I'll look at it tomorrow or Friday.

You'll have to log into your router and set the connection security to WEP or none. This however isn't recommended as it's very insecure. You don't need to replace any part of your DS.

I am just looking for a way for the DS to work with WPA-2. Is that somehow possible w/o buying a connecting cable?

It's not possible, the original DS/DS Lite simply doesn't support anything above WEP. Putting a DS game into a DSi or 3DS won't work either. Anthe's suggestion is probably your best option.
