Ikr, really stupid.
What is even more stupid is that the wii u has to go to tge wii menu in order to play wii games.

GameCube games will be offered through Virtual Console and going to the Wii Menu is not that bad. At least it is backwards compatible with the Wii.

Now they will charge you for games you have in a disc at home.
Nintendo is turning into SONY and Microsoft!

Some people dont have those discs
Also, if you had them, perhaps you also have a way to play them elsewhere than the wii U
