Today I've got something exciting for you to play! Here's a more difficult version of SMG2: Super Mario Galaxy 2: Daredevil Mode!
This is based on MayroSMM's idea of playing under daredevil conditions in SMG. This removes all the Luma Shops, Checkpoint Flags and Life-Up mushrooms. But most importantly, your health is limited to one life point only! Download link is in the video's description.


I've already done daredevil via ocarina code, but the no-checkpoints is interesting.

Question: Why remove life shrooms and luma shops? Life shrooms don't actually do anything with a daredevil lifebar, so the lack of luma shops is really just removing 1-ups. That makes sense if regular 1-ups are gone, too... but they're not, so...?

Maybe with a daredevil code to make the first 20 more interesting... idk.

You can type in code from another language just by using it's name? Even if it's just python, that's still extremely powerful.

The disc ID is RMG. Just make sure the region in the XML is either the same as your disc (so the check passes) or nonexistent (so it won't check to begin with).

hey, this hack doesn't seem too bad. will you be adding/moving other objects for green stars, or simply the green stars themselves?

also, the last green star in grandmaster galaxy seems a bit out of place... as in i don't think anyone would look there... maybe a trail of coins leading to it?


I think it would have been more obvious from a different camera angle, so it's probably OK.

Anyhow, this actually seems really cool. It's something I would play after 100%-ing Odyssey, though that could take some time. The green stars were fun to find, but after one playthrough... that's not really possible.

That is, if they're hidden well... though they seem to be hidden fine based on the videos.

MKW and SSBB are two big ones you're missing. SPM would also be nice as there a few mods right now for it, and I have one coming.

Agreed. MKW has an enormous hacking community (or at least, it used to), so there are a lot of options for that. I'm not to familliar with SSBB, however I believe the situation is similar.

I have it on my SD card, but the redistribution policy states that MrBean himself needs to consent to the Master Quest mod being uploaded.

But in general: If well-known mods like NewerSMBW are obtainable here, this has a lot of potential. I myself don't have anything of value to submit (until MKW mods are submittable, at least), but if a lot of people do, the potential is limitless.

It isn't showcased anywhere, so I wanted to show it so people know what they're putting into the signature.

But I wouldn't worry about the 7 downloads; It'll go up when the Database is released. And I have a MKWii mod almost ready to go (EDIT: going to take longer than I thought), just have to track down the authors of everything since it's over 4+ years old, so when MKWii.com went down, my credits list went with it.

But yeah, we have to get the word out if we want to build the database.

There are three images that need to be ready before submission can complete. They are:

-Square Logo
-Large Preview (528x160)
-Small Preview (126x120)

Just be sure to have them ready.

while the wii is the main target, i suggest that after it is finished, work on getting a PC version up and running (not so much mobile because who the heck uses a phone to download mods for a wii?) because while this removes the exclusivity, it would still be much more convenient for people. obviously the wii would be the main target and would get updates and stuff first, but the PC version would be there for people to also download mods there.

basically, putting main focus onto a wii version while still adding a PC version would ensure that modtendo! is still useful, while also being available on other platforms.

also, dolphin.


I agree, but keep in mind it's designed to work with Riivolution, so it's unclear how much will transfer to dolphin smoothly.

Also natnew, what do you mean by "transfer to Dolphin"? If someone's computer is powerful enough, there shouldn't be any change in gameplay. Unless someone's hack crashes on Wii but not on Dolphin.


I mean that Dolphin will only use ISOs, so the mod needs to be converted to one before use.

For the "Door" warp object, the Door types 01 and 08 are both listed as "Standard Door"
There is a subtle difference, however: 08 is an unused (I think?) variant that does not have a handle on one side. It acts the same, however. I tried to add this to the object DB... my question is, where can I add this?

Any tips on how to record desmume with better quality are welcome. I used XSplit Broadcaster for this one.


I'm not planning on adding new levels from scratch, because A) Last time I tried Model Importing it didn't go so well, and B) it's supposed to be a trek through the previous worlds, and seeing what the conflict has caused all over. More info in the soon-to-come thread.

Also, DeSmuMe has a built-in recording feature, in File -> Record AVI. It's what I used in my video, if you need an example. Bonus: It lags the game significantly, but it won't show on video.
