Yes they are. The problem is I can't check for any errors in the NTSC-U version. I'm very sorry about that :/
EDIT: Well, does it work now, legomariofanatic?

I'll ask MeTheMarioMan if he could provide his XML. He got it working.

Nope, that's not necessary. I don't know how I would do that either.

Thank you for your playthrough, MeTheMarioMan. I enjoyed it :)
EDIT: The Ice Flower and Red Star bugs have been fixed. Redownload the game and try if it works. ^^

Dungeon item editing hasn't been figured out yet.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm working on this little project again and I'm making some good progress :)

EDIT: Here are some new previews. The tileset preview is a very helpful addition. Thanks to SilverDeoxys563 for creating them.

Updated the files again. NOW the XML works, MeTheMarioMan can confirm this ^^
I also made a bunch of smaller bugfixes. Have fun!

Well, since I don't get the red star working on the emulator, I won't be able to do a complete playthrough.

Wow, I should really do some kind of FAQ. This is like the most asked question, hehe.
The other two stars are unavailable, because I couldn't figure out how to trigger comets for the first time. I was able to fake some of the comets, though. That explains why some stars, like the second one in Gloomy Galleon, are normal stars. There's no solution for this at the moment.

I tried to mimic pretty much everything. I configured the SystemDataTable, I replaced CloudGardenGalaxy and BigTree2Galaxy and moved them to world 1, but this didn't help. Anyway, the two lost stars are daredevil comets in the Battle Blast and Kraken King galaxies. One comet it partially lost; the second star in Turnlog was supposed to be a timed daredevil comet with the shadows following the player.

Whitehole =/= Emulator

Also, it didn't work out that good. While the Ice Flower works on the emulator, the Red Star just crashes and I can't figure out why.

Mayro just released the first part of his NMG playthrough. Please note that this shows an older version of the game that has a few bugs and problems that have been fixed already.

CAM_TYPE_ZX_PARA doesn't exist.

You can find some information on cameras here. Changing that camera type shouldn't crash the game.

I guess this would fit into the Misc. ROM hacking section. Anway, there shouldn't be any finished levels from SMG2.5. There's the Planet Plains demo and some old Sunshine test levels. I think an unfinished portion of Sky High Galaxy has leaked as well. But that's it. The Planet Plains stage can be found here:

You still have:
Cinemario
Comet Observatory in SMG2 (I think)
Dossun2 (Technically)
SMG Soundfonts
NMG (FIX DA COMETS WITH THIS)
There might may be more that I don't know of. :P

- Cinemario was finished, but I removed all downloads for this piece of crap.
- Comet Observatory is part of NMG
- Dossun2 has a released version, but I'll take on that project again at some point
- SMG soundfonts was abandoned, yeah
- NMG is finished. The thread you linked doesn't help at all, lulz
