IF we could just ask game devs for help modding, we'd be years further along... |

Posted by Somebody Else Thing is, you're looking at it like modding; more than likely they'll keep Yoshi, but IDs and all that will be behind the scenes, so kids won't have to worry about that shizzle. I think it will be very very simple, just placing blocks, enemies, and warps. Warp pipes are almost certainly in the game, because THEY WERE ONE OF ITS FOUNDING BLOCKS. It's easy to make destinations match up behind the scenes when all you do is select it and click an option which shows all other areas in the level you've made. |

Posted by Somebody Else ...what are you talking about? This is made by Nintendo? So they literally have access to all the code? |

Posted by Somebody Else Trust me, I know. I've been a game designer by hobby since I was 8. But it takes a lot less time when you have a team of 10+ people. It won't take much work comparatively on a game dev scale. And creating a level design software already takes more than 10x that effort. I suspect they will be re-coding mostly everything, as they need their game to be completely bug free, no matter how the objects interact. |

I'm guessing this is fake, or at least partially so. As for taking them down as being leaks, I've also seen the reverse, such as in Fallout, where there was the whole website that people thought was real making up puzzles and stuff and the official page never denied it, so people claimed it was real. Regardless of whether it gets taken down or not, it may or may not be real, that's more company policy than proof.
Any leak video (false or not) going viral is reason for concern for Nintendo, as either way it will have the potential to generate bad publicity. In my personal opinion, I think we are dealing with a truly professional troll. He is trolling Nintendo by leaking material, but mixing in false information to confuse the public. I think everyone involved is getting trolled by him and that he is telling only partial truths. |

I feel like this is missing part of the sentiment of those small comments. Those comments are people attempting to show their support for what you do, and I feel that if you look at it more along the lines of something like a Reddit upvote, it makes more sense. Not everyone is going to spend the time to make a meaningful comment; some people just want you to know that they look at what you do and appreciate it, even if they themselves may never ending up using it (for whatever reasons).
It's even more relevant when it comes to things that certain people don't know anything about. I didn't know anything about renaming stuff in SMG2, so if I say "Cool" it's cause I'm learning from you. Just like I can't critique K-Pop for having bad lyrics without sounding like I'm ignorant, I can't give good criticism for a programming tool or method because I'm crap at programming. Any 'meaningful' criticism would show ignorance on my side and sound like I'm arrogant. Meanwhile, a simple statement like "That's really cool" should be taken as me saying that I'm keeping track of your achievements and I appreciate them. tl;dr: I understand your points, but I feel that you should think of "cool"s more as votes of appreciation and less as feedback. |

Wow, I just realized that touching cosmic mario gets star bits. I mean, I knew how to glitch backwards up a normally-too-steep hill but not that cosmic mario gives star bits. |

So, I've been lurking for a while but I never really got beyond the idea phase for modding SMG2, and I figured I might try it now, but I'm having trouble creating the BDL. I'm probably an idiot, but I'm stuck.
I'm using an older version of 3DS max to export the obj. Everything seems to go fine with this, and I can reload the obj without problems. However, whenever I try to use BDLCreate/OBJ2BDL, it gives me the following error message:

So I got further this time. I'm now stuck at the final parts. I've packed my bdl, kcl, and pa files into an arc. I also opened, edited, and repacked ProductMapObjDataTable. However, after putting them into ObjectData, whitehole still doesn't recognize their existence. What am I doing wrong? |

Posted by Bouldergeist_hacker Yeah... I should learn to read. It was that last one that I missed. EDIT: YAY! IT'S BROKEN AGAIN!
So... what stupid thing did I creatively mess up this time. |

Sorry, missed your message at first. I'm using the most recent version of python (3.4, I think). I'm guessing that's probably the wrong version or something then? |

Don't know how many of you are aware of it, but Sethbling created a self learning program to run various mario games. You can find him streaming over here: http://www.twitch.tv/sethbling
I created this thread to discuss the possible changes you could make to this program to make it run other games. I figured some of you might be interested in this. I have virtually no experience ROM modding, but I wanted to see what you all think you could do with this. For example, I wanted to work on improving the mario kart version to recognize obstacles (maybe as 3 categories: Good [question blocks], bad [shells, other damaging obstacles], or neutral [karts, pipes, etc]. |

Well, I tried a dozen things, don't know what I'm doing wrong, nothing works. This sucks.
I guess I'll just make the pieces and see if I can find a partner to import and test them. |

What would be the easiest way to trigger a warp to a new zone at the end of a launch star path? |
