Just downloaded the latest version of sm64dse, and it turns out I had downloaded an extremely old version, prob's the first one with model importing. This should probably help XD.

I'm just thinking, why does everybody use european m64ds roms? Aside from the compatibility with the patches that can be applied, and the font having more characters, is there any reason?

The European ROM is always going to be better supported, it's the version I use when testing changes/new features in the editor and the version mine and most of the hacks are being made with at the minute, so there's a greater chance of issues being fixed if they're in the EUR ROM, issues in the US one might not be found and will be lower priority to fix. There'll also be more 'Additional Patches' for the EUR ROM. There only being one EUR version as opposed to two as with the US and JAP versions also makes things easier. The EUR version is the one I'd recommend you use.

Alright thanks, clears that question up nicely.

Quick update: In the process of learning blender so that my level doesn't look like the garbage beside the hobo in that one alley that seems very shady.

After both of mine broke, I had no nunchuks, rendering my copies of galaxy 1 and 2 useless, and therefore I could hack neither. That has changed, and once I finish learning blender and modeling my first sm64ds level, i'll make a Super Mario Galaxy port of the level.

Just thought I would also mention that the 8th gen Wii U branded icon nunchuks are really nice for only $10 CAD.

Posted on 05-17-14 03:03 PM, in Wii U Tutorial - Directly to Wii Mode with T.V. off Link | #41317
(NOTE: If you don't use HDMI to send the output of the Wii U to the T.V., skip to step 5.) So if you have a Wii U, and you've updated it, you've probably discovered the display Wii mode to gamepad feature. You may have also discovered that if you hold b while starting up the Wii U, you can hold B to go directly to Wii mode. But, when the T.V. is off (also, when the T.V. is on a different input while on, or when there's no T.V. Connected) you can't go straight to the Wii menu while holding b on start up, because an error pops up. And since you also can't open it from the Wii U menu, there's no way to get to Wii mode without your T.V. on, right? Well, here's a tutorial to avoid this issue.

1. Turn Wii U on normally
2. Go to the settings
3. Change the output to non-HDMI
4. Turn Wii U off
5. Hold B on start up, and voila!
6. As long as the output is non-HDMI, you can go directly to Wii mode. But, as long as it's on non-HDMI, you're T.V. will need a composite or component cable to display anything, so switch it back when you're gonna use the T.V. (Note: you don't actually need non-HDMI cables, it works fine without them.)

I think the reason this works is that the HDMI cable can detect and send a signal of some sort when it's sending data to the T.V., and the T.V. is receiving the data. The non-HDMI cables cannot, so the Wii U doesn't give a crap whether you even have a non-HDMI cable connected.

Hmm... maybe a level focused on breaking into a fort, with some tricky platforming until you get to a spot where you can rope slide into an open skylight, and then making your way through the fort until you find a pipe somewhere.

Hmm... i'ts not technically pirating if it's only 1 file right? I dunno, wait for a moderator to approve the transfer of this file, if yes i'll gladly supply, if no, then you should figure out why the extractors hate you.

You could call it Bowser's Fortified Fortress (Nah, that's already the final boss level from smg2, maybe something like Bowser's Ferocious Fort)

Just wondering, for the next revision of SM64DSe, You should add a delete all for objects, would help for starting a new stage and wanting to clear it, instead of clicking 50 billion times. Just a thought. Or maybe i'm missing something.

Progress Report: I figured out Blender and successfully imported a model, gonna start messing with the actual creation now, hopefully I can get some sort of demo ready, also i'm scraping the basic hub I had before in favor of a new one made in Blender. Will update the original post with the demo as soon as it is finished.
If you care at all, the demo will only have 1 or 2 stars, and most likely a 100 coin mission, so it will be 3 stars out of 8.

(BTW is it possible to change the title of a thread? Just wondering for later.)

Fantasic hack skawo :D played the first 8 stars already. It's so well made. Still have to finish playing a oot hack called Voyager of Time, as well as AnotherSMBW and Newer, but this hack is so well made i'll 100% it after Voyager. Which leads me to the question, any plans to pursue oot hacking sometime skawo?

So I decide to model my level in sketchup, since blender is too much of a headache. Skawo's Another Super Mario 3D showed the power of sketchup and inspired me to actually make my hack and to stop being lazy. So I model this castle, it looks really good, after several hours of positioning the texture's for the crenellations, I finish it. Then I try to import it into sm64dse, and there's nothing but white instead of my textures, confused I troubleshoot on google, only to find I put all the texture's on the back of the faces, and therefore i would have to re-texture everything (SEVERAL HOURS OF TEDIOUS CRENELLATION TEXTURING).
So the question stands, do I re-texture everything, and waste my life away, or make a fresh new model with 100% less crenellations? The latter. Just thought I would share my idiocy, and a warning to all, in sketchup, put your texture's on the WHITE FACE. That's all, I should have the level ready sometime soon.

Tried that, I exported it obj, imported it into blender. It was broken into 4 grounds, so I went into edit mode with each. In each edit mode I pressed A to highlight all faces, then pressed ctrl+f, and then clicked flip normals. Yet when imported back to sketchup both sides of the faces are textureless, I'm not sure, maybe I did it wrong? It's fine, while it is a shame the castle made will never see the light of day, It only looked good, and was far to basic to really make a level. I'll start working on a much better level that will hopefully not suck.

Will there be a demo?

When you think about it, if it's a 1 level hack, a demo is pointless. I will try to finish the hack soon though.

Posted by Stomatol
How did you import it back in to SketchUp? If you used .dae you need to check Include Material Textures when exporting from blender

I might have not checked that. I used obj, but i'll try dae, no computer access atm, but when I have a chance i'll try that. I may be able to adapt the castle into a new level someday.

UPDATE: Tried the include material textures, figured out the issue. Sketchup only exports the textures on the front faces, aka flip normals in blender will not work. Upon further investigation, including ticking an option to export both sides of a face, the textures are impossible to salvage, at least with my current tools. Hopefully I can use the model for something in the future, but atm i'm not re-texturing it. Now I've learned from my mistakes, and can create something new and interesting (hopefully, at least).

UPDATE #2: Figured out that I can change the scale of texture. Since all the crenellations are essentially copies of each other with most of the faces being the same size, I can make several textures using the same image and retexture everything really quickly. I'll use the castle as a hub, with the main level being the interior. I'll hide 2 or 3 stars in the hub, and 7 in the main level (and a 100 coin mission on top of that). I'll release the hub just so that you can play my progress. While a demo is pointless (as stated before) It's less of a demo and more of a proof of concept. The hub will have no objects or stars. Should be uploaded later today or tommorow.

Any plans to replace the model for the entrance to Big Boo's Haunt with the bottle to make that red coin level from Noki Bay? Or are you not gonna include it. I'd imagine the latter as SM64DS only has a limited number of stages. Then again, is it possible to increase the limit of stages?

From what I noticed, after not being able to find the owl in Hot, Hot, Snowland, I updated to 1.04 and the owl was in a tree beside the spawn point. Either the owl wasn't there in 1.03, or i'm dumb. Either way you should put a coin on top of the owl tree Skawo, it'll help with finding it. Plus i'm pretty sure the original game did that.

What you just said got me thinking, since you could play demo's of DS games off the nintendo channel on the wii, theoretically using the same method couldn't you load a game like mario 64 ds or something of the sort onto a DS, from the wii. And therefore run hacks on you ds with no modchip. Doubt it's possible, if it was people would have done it already. But it's just a small theory.
