Hello, my name is Amy.

I'm a real-life composer, to an extent. I play the Violin, Viola, Flute, Guitar, Piano, Harp (Also to an extent), Drums and a few trumpets and related instruments. I've spent the majority of my life studying, playing, and creating my own music.

I've know about this project for awhile, and it seems lately that progress has picked up. I would love to help with composing, writing music, and whatever else may be involved with the process.

Apparently, it is required of me to make the music orchestrated. There is an issue with this, however, and this is the reason I've created this thread...

My experience is limited to actual instruments and paper, I've have 0 experience with these programs that are used to create virtual music.

I'm wondering, are there any tutorials, guides, anything that's geared towards this specific subject? Which programs are commonly used? I've purchased a program called FruityLoops, known as FL Studio. So far I've been able to write my pieces in MIDI, but I'm not sure how to make them sound like real instruments.

I'm a college student who majors in this subject, and I'd love to be able to orchestrate my music and offer my help to this project.

Any help would be loved, I'm eager to help out with this project and contribute with my professionally written music.

lol, well, I am a part of an orchestra, but I wouldn't be able to convince everyone to record a piece I made :D

Thank-you Goembario.

Agent000, I unfortunately do not possess the proper equipment which would be needed to record quality audio. I would have the borrow the equipment from the school, which is currently not within the realm is possibility.

I see learning how to do this as an essential skill, I'd love to be able to hear my own music done fully orchestrated, and have others enjoy it too through this project.

The school supplies any student working in music with a free copy of the program called FruityLoops, so that's what I'd like to use, unless something else is recommended.

Beyond MIDI sequences, I truly have no idea how to replace the electronic sounds with real or realistic intrument sounds, which is the only area of this that I seem to fail in.

Well, I do have a specific question, how do you insert instrumental noises in place of electronic MIDI Noises?

One of my favorites I've heard would be that one called 'Green Grassland Galaxy', it's overall style and sound is top notch, close to that of a real orchestra. How is that done? How do you get those sounds working? That's pretty much what I'm missing here.

If anyone would be willing to guide me through specific steps, or atleast point out some obvious button that I'm missing, I'd be truly greatful. I've already layed out my pieces by playing what I can and writing a music sheet, trying to imagine how it will all soind together.

I really hope I can figure this out, it's something I've always wanted to do.

Soundfont - You mean instrument samples? Where would I find these, and how would I install them properly?

I may be able to borrow some of the School's equipment if I let them know I'm recording sound samples for a personal project (Recording samples) that would be useful to others, I could use my own samples as well.

Agent000: I use FruityLoops. VST sounds familiar, so I'm pretty sure that it does.

Is it as simple as installing the plugin, do you have to manually map each sample to a beat, does it require anything beyond that?

It's about 1 GB of RAM if I'm correct, I was planning on buying a new computer later this week if that's not good enough.

8 GB... Got it, can do.

There's still a few things I'd like some clarity on. What do I do after I install the plugin? Are the virtual instruments automatically swapped out with the real samples, or will this have to be done manually, and how so?

I also see that you mention how it's lacking in certain areas. I can record additional sound samples if needed, or get some elsewhere. How would I install those then?

Alright, I'll try it out, sounds simple enough.

Thank-you so much, you have been beyond helpful, hopefully I'll be able to create some good pieces for this project.

May I contact you again if I run into any troubles? And again, thank-you. :D

Also, if you need help purchasing a soundfont, I'd be willing to pitch in if necessary. Best of luck composing!

Seriously? I've been considering buying one after what Agent000 said, it sounds too good to not have.

I'll definitely let you know if I decide to purchase, hopefully sharing would be allowed.

And thank-you Mika :D
