Thank you guys so much for posting constructive feedback I'm actually really happy to see the conversation that can go on with this thread. Let's answer the questions starting from the beginning.

To MercuryPenny:
The post took around 2 and a half hours to write. Its 1712 words long. Not the most time I've spent on a post but still a substantial one. I just wish I could write my English essays that fast.

To GalaxyHacker:
I'm glad you agree with the fact that the "Wow nice!" comments are unhelpful. Also don't feel bad about your Changed Backgrounds getting praise its not your fault and to be honest I thought it was a pretty cool effect.

In my post I didn't mean to say you shouldn't release stuff, I just mean that that isn't my policy for releasing stuff. You can do stuff your own way. Also what exactly do you mean by a "SMG Hacks" section?

Something that you could do to make me glad would be to spend a little extra time to work to work on a galaxy with a well thought out theme and design that looks and plays nice. If you could work a new experiment of yours into it that would be even better. You definitely have the ability to make a really nice level.

To Jesse:
Yeah, I'm still super excited about scrolling textures. It will automatically make a huge increase for the quality of White-Hot, Toxic Terror and Coastline Cavern.

Don't worry about hurting my feelings in a post. I'd rather have the truth than lies and I can handle the truth. All I want to do is get better. Also what are some of the criticisms for my Bob-Omb Battlefield model? I might not be able to make all of the changes just due to time constraints but I'll look into them.

Unfortunately its really difficult to teach the designing process. If it were so easy I would have made a massive thread about it a while ago. Everyone's just so different that they just need to find what works for them.

To Spacey:
I absolutely know how you feel about wanting to do better than you have before. And as I said for GalaxyHacker I'm glad you feel the same way about the "Nice Work!" posts.

To Splitwirez:
Well there are really two ways to start on a model. One is to have a nice drawing in front of you so you know what you are trying to create. There is also the really weird way that I go about making new models which is when I'm away from the computer I open blender in my mind and go about the process of making a model thinking about how to do what stuff and how to do it with Blender. I don't recommend that method of course unless you have a deep knowledge of how Blender works and a really solid mental design.

Also there is no such thing as a trade secret. I want everyone to work as efficiently as possible because wasted time is useless, and I honestly don't care if someone overtakes me in quality for levels.

As a nice aside. Now that I have a new computer I might start working on a Blender tutorial series specifically for use with SMG Hacking. All I need is a good mic for it and to see if anyone has interest in something like that.

I really like the vertex shading, nice to see other people using it. The transition between the grass and the sand is really good. I do think the stone step pile in the back could use a little improvement just by tweaking the transition between the first and second steps.

More progress guys! Here's a little update on the second star of Sky High, which takes place inside a rocket.

This one is special as well because it features 3 fully custom textures that I made, which are the side metal one with the rivets, the metal grip ones and the rough metal used on that tank in the middle. As always suggestions are encouraged. Also this is not the finalized color scheme, suggestions on different colors are appreciated as well, as well as easy to implement.

Let's mix it up a bit.

Favorite Games All Time
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2
I really like this because it is really good for speedrunning. I've spent the most amour of time on this game. I really want to do a 60 star speedrun sometime.
2. Mario Kart Double Dash
Also fun for speedrunning. I like it the most of Mario Karts because it is the most skill based one. Being able to dodge red and blue shells with good timing. It makes the game a lot less frustrating for me.

Best Spent Money
1. Minecraft
I bought this back in early beta. I got a ton of playtime out of it. Unfortunately I don't play that often anymore because it's so minigame based. I just want to play survival with someone who is as skilled and mature as I am.

Best Games for Me Now
1. Kerbal Space Program
A space program simulating game. It is so much fun. I've learned a lot about orbital mechanics and what goes into interplanetary travel or even going to the moon. It really makes me appreciate what NASA did back in the 60's or even with the ISS (docking is hard and takes a long time).

Thanks guys, I really wish I could have posted with rainbows but I was busy with classes and school from 8:30AM to 10:00PM so I didn't really have any time to be on kuribo.

I wish there was more to say, but thanks again. School's been super busy recently so sorry for not being around all that often.

So I return with my latest, and also most advanced, Blender project. I had a world building class at school and the world I built was built around this tower. The blender file is said tower.

This isn't finished yet. I still need to make textures for it and add some more details to it. I also will most likely be redoing the top section to make it more like how I envisioned it.

Hey everyone,

So if you haven't heard yet I've got a new nice computer (i7 4790K + GTX 970). I also acquired a nice mic (Antlion Mod Mic 4.0) to go with it as well. Not to float my own boat or anything but I feel as if I'm the most experienced person here at Blender. Throughout my time here I've referred many people to various blender tutorials including the one that I used to learn it myself. These tutorials either don't have enough info or they have too much info for a beginner therefore I pose the question:

Should I make a Blender tutorial?

If yes (you're a smart one), then I want to know how exactly should I prepare this blender tutorial?

I could do a pretty basic tutorial for beginners so they could learn the program, but I want everyone to benefit from this. So here are two options.
1.) Split every part into two separate parts, the basics and the advanced.
2.) Make every part into one video with both beginner and advanced parts

The first option would definitely be better for the experienced users among us, but it would also be much more difficult to organize. On the other hand I could also break the sections into each various tool and how to use them. Suggestions would be welcome.

The second question I have for you guys is how should I focus this tutorial?
1.) Make it all SMG2 hacking based including ways to save on polys and omit other functions of blender.
2.) Make it all about Blender including everything I know about Blender, including other stuff which I would learn specifically for this tutorial series. But try to focus the stuff that I can on hacking SMG2.

Either Answer is okay. If I end up doing the first option we might get a custom level out of it. If I go with the second option I'd be able to improve my blending skills and also be able to teach you guys more useful skills past hacking galaxy.

Well that's all I got for you guys as of now. Any feedback of any kind would be great.

I'll be posting more info depending on what kind of feedback I get

So I've got two writing samples. The one on the left is something I wrote for you guys because I couldn't find any cursive stuff in my notes, usually I write in cursive in quizzes/tests, on the right is some of my notes from Quantum Mechanics last week (shows my real world handwriting and printing as well as some math script).

Bad cosmological, just make a short post for once. No you can't make me.

I'll do it as well. One problem though, I've been doing a lot of high poly renders and projects in Blender recently so it will be a bit difficult to go back to hacking SMG.

I'd much rather return to the One World hack than do a SM64 remake, just because originality is fun. I'll try to evaluate everything that went wrong with the last One World Hack attempt so we can fix it. Assuming we've got you the whole way through Glem, I think we'd be able to get more of it done.

Although this might just kill us instead of helping us, we definitely should get water working, just assigning one person to do that while the rest of us model/texture should allow us to get that feature.

Also reiterating what others have said, we need this to go on the original 2.5 channel. More publicity is always good.

Right now, assuming we get everyone. I think everyone could work on their own galaxy for this hack. For modelers we've got me, Stomatol, PaperplateismGuy, Glem3, and Jesse. Given that Sky High is already done??? that leaves a galaxy for each of us to do. Also responding to Jesse I can whip up a quick design for you to model if we decide to go through with this.

For that chart, I'm not sure if we should keep everything we did on that. I know some of those levels ended up discouraging me which led to the demise of the One World Galaxy Hack.

Personally Coastline isn't all that special and could be replaced with the really cool desert level that Stomatol has some old progress on.

Also Solar Coaster seems really short to me and way too complex gravity wise. I think I'd like to replace it with a new Yoshi based galaxy, castle themed.

Sky High Star 2 will be redesigned, by myself, to have a 2D rocket interior which Jesse will model and texture for us. This will allow for camera angles that work and still have the rocket interior.

Whitehot can stay or it can go. I personally like it and it is so close to being done that I say we just keep it.

Toxic Terror is sort of on the fence for me. It has the really nice model that Stomatol made, but that's about it. Also we can decide whether it stays or goes.

This is just my opinion. Nothing is final of course. This all depends on who wants to model what and what they think will allow them to be most excited, which usually translates to faster progress.

Shameless bump or my own thread to promote my own artwork.

Today I started working on a new symbol/avatar/whatever in Blender. It came out pretty nice IMO. I used Cycles to render it and it took 35 minutes on my 970.

Right now I'm rerendering it in 4K with a slight material adjustment on the laser etching, which I'll post tomorrow morning when it finishes.

So we were having a discussion on the IRC about what to do with Retro Remix Galaxy, and Agent had a pretty good idea. To have Bob-Omb Battlefield be the SM64 stage, except now it's completely destroyed. So a bunch of parts of the level are still there but it's just in pieces floating though space.

Liking that idea I decided to expand upon it, so hear me out (This design is pretty polarizing IMO, but I love it).

So Retro Remix is still going to be a galaxy full of remakes of previous games, except now there's a twist: the levels will be in a state as if Mario never existed in their worlds.

So if you remember in BoB in SM64 (acronyms wow), the Bob-Ombs were at war. They unofficially ended their war when Mario defeated King Bob-Omb. Well in this galaxy Mario was never there to defeat King Bob-Omb, so the war kept escalating until the evil Bob-Ombs developed nuclear technology and destroyed the planet (Think Truth or Consequences). In the galaxy Mario sees the wreckage of the battlefield floating through space.

Moving on to the second level of the Galaxy, Ricco Harbor. So in Sunshine, Mario was there to clean up the entire island. Well in this level he never cleaned up the island so the waste compounded. The new Ricco Harbor is completely polluted (the pollution would be dark matter in SMG) and all of the machines are either grinding to a halt or completely broken.

Well that was depressing. But I really love this idea. I'd be up for modeling everything for it, or at least designing it fully. If others also like this idea I'll expand on it more and start work on it ASAP.

So recently I've been working on my pencil and paper drawing. I realized that I haven't done anything to improve my skills since 8th grade. So here are my two latest pieces of artwork.

First Up is what was going to be my Sky High Level Design. It follows my previous 3D perspective drawing strategies except with a slight addition.

I added shadows to the scene. This was my first time trying to do realistic shadows in a scene. They aren't perfect but still nice.

Second off is an eye drawing. I've been drawing eyes for a long time, but its usually in page margins. So this time I decided to sit down and draw an eye for about an hour. Probably my best results ever. I also added something to make it seem more realistic.

I'm going to probably work next on more realistic textures and glass refractions. I'll post it when I do it.

Sill working on some drawings at my job. Still trying to improve my skills, also drawing helps keep me calm given that this job is pretty high stress.

First up is a hand drawing. This one is pretty dang uninspired or unoriginal but whatever. It shows off what pencil I use to draw my pictures.

Second off is a lake drawing. This is probably the most detailed drawing I've ever done. I think I'm going to modify it a bit so the sky and water are darker to show off the sun and sun's reflection on the water. The picture that I took of it doesn't really do it justice but here it is anyways.

Blah why am I even replying to this. Well given that I currently have no purpose on this board I might as well post something.

So a black hole is defined as having a schwarzschild radius greater than it's actual size. A schwarschild radius is the radius at which light cannot escape the gravitational pull of an object. You can find it by taking the equation for escape velocity replacing the velocity with c and solving for the rtadius r. Looks like this: r = (2GM)/(c^2). Everything has a schwarzschild radius, it is just usually smaller than the size of an atom and only really works in the case of point sources. You can find out your schwarzschild radius by plugging in your weight and using the universatl gravitational constant.

In nature a black hole is the remains of a dead star. The interesting part of it is that in the core there is a singularity, which is a point of infinite density. At this point gravitational pull is infinite. Use the equation GMm/(r^2). At the point the r is 0 so the gravitational pull is infinite, using limits. So with black holes in nature a lot of people talk about the event horizon. This is the region in which light cannot escape the gravity of the blackhole. The event horizon is not a physical object, it is a lot of nothing. Say for instance we had a particle which could travel faster than light. Observing a blackhole now the even horizon would be slightly smaller (Take the equation and replace c with 1.2c or something). The area where you would observe the original event horizon would be empty space.

In the case of an object, Arisotura's urine for example entering a black hole there are various theories about what would happen. For being turned into atoms, that would partially be true. As the objects get closer to the singularity the gravitational forces would keep getting stronger. It gets so sudden that one side of the object has significantly more gravitational attraction than the other side, this is called speghettificaion. So it would start by breaking down the chemical bonds into individual atoms. As it got closer to the singularity the gravity would be able to overcome the weak nuclear force and separate the elections from the protons and neutrons of the atom. And as it got even closer to the singularity it would overcome the strong nuclear force and break them into quarks. As the gravity approached infinity at the singularity, the particles would be compressed into a single point.

Although the singularity has infinite density, it does have finite mass. So once the urine is in the blackhole the blackhole would gain mass and the event horizon would increase in size.

Blah probably killed the discussion there.

Well I saw this thread and it looks like I've been beat to a responce.

I'm pretty busy with college but to relieve some stress because I have two exams tomorrow I decided to draw. I haven't done anime for like 4 and a half years so it might be a bit rusty. I only got to a pencil drawing as of now. You can color it yourself if you want or I can color it as well (you'd need to wait a day or two).

The face is a bit messed up, it's difficult to do all the details right in such a small area of the paper. Maybe I should have make the whole thing larger.

Blah I can't make a short post still.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Hacking is gone. Trust me on this, if you think you want to hack more than anyone else, you're wrong. It's just too complex of a game to produce nice work for and has an extremely high entrance barrier. Don't try to revive the scene here, because nothing will come of it.

Nothing ever happened for 2.5, we never completed a single level. If you really want to do stuff on your own, download whitehole and all the other tools you need. There are still plenty of tutorials archived on the board and I was able to make my own custom level only by looking at them so it shouldn't be all that difficult.

Also don't threaten to spam the board with threads that shouldn't need to exist. Doing so will result in a ban.
