Yeah, wasn't retro remix for that?

Well, I found this near impossible level on YouTube (probably too hard for a normal game) that requires you to keep the cloud flower while going through hard platforming stuff. Perhaps there could be a part (just one small section) that requires keeping the cloud flower?

Uh... Here's something I drew. It's ugly, but that's why I'm not the artist.

So... That was made with like children's art tools and stuff. Ignore the mushroom. It was supposed to be a maple tree.
This is just what I'd imagine the level to look like (the main planet, where you land in the top circle) without items, enemies, etc. This is the winter/spring side if you couldn't tell.

Here are some references I used from other levels:

I'm working on a level design right now, and there'll be separate planets with different seasons, so it's not just this one.

I was thinking using a main planet (something like the spoiler below) for silver stars in the first star, and the second star with separate planets each with their own season, and it cycles through winter spring summer autumn until the end. (maybe fog in between? like the fog in grandmaster galaxy)

OR... For the second star:
When you get to the part with separate planets (as it should start on the main planet still) there are four medium-sized planets, and sling stars between them to go winter>spring>summer>autumn>winter etc. but there are only four planets, so it's a true cycle. It'll be kind of like a puzzle, and you have to press a certain button on one planet, or flip a certain switch on another, etc. and eventually unlock something (the power star or a launch star to a boss) while using each season's features (summer: beach, ocean, so maybe an underwater switch? winter: snow, ice, so maybe a part where you use the ice flower walk across the frozen water, etc.). So it'd kinda be like four levels in one, except mini-levels.

I'm working on a design right now. I don't think anyone else is?

I really like the drawing 0.0

Though maybe we should make the change less...Awkward looking?

Thanks ^-^
I was thinking to make it distinct to show different seasons, but now I think that maybe it should transition (so the left side of spring has a bit of snow, with less plants, and the right of spring has more flowers, etc.) as seasons transition that way.

Yeah, it'd have to be neatened up a bit, but aside from that, I think it'd be pretty good as a main planet.

Of course make it neatened. Even though it turned out better than expected, it also turned out worse than expected. (I imagined it in my head to look better, but also, I knew it would look ugly as I'm a horrible artist.) So, there should be things done to it, like add objects, items, and enemies, and change the landform (mainly the scale of it).

NWPlayer123 and GeometricExpuldion are working design. I am not sure how far along it is though.

Oops. I think someone told me it wasn't taken. Oh well, I'll work on a different one then.

Yeah, in my eventual design that I was fleshing out, you'd need to go to several planets to get it long enough, and if they're big enough and encourage exploration, it would be way too long, which may or may not be good.
Yu have given me ideas though, which is always good.

I think exploration is always a nice feature, but if you're going to encompass exploration on all 4 planets, make sure you're able to continually access all 4 planets (as the main point of exploration is to go anywhere you want, essentially) so maybe have like sling stars that cycle through the planets or something.

(This would make a great purple coin level, I think. I played through SMG1 with the exploration purple coin levels (beach bowl, honeyhive, etc.) and they're much more fun than speed-based ones. A lot more fun.)

Please don't work on another one. Nobody can "reserve" a galaxy, and your ideas being contributed are good ones!

Oh really? Ok then, I guess I'll continue working on this one.

Noes, the more ideas the better. Make your own design with your own ideas, whether someone else is making one or not. Even if they do share ideas, that shows that that's something the final design should have. I was going for having this giant tree planet in the middle of the galaxy, and half of it is based on spring, and half on fall, and the seasons have gotten messed up. Star 2 would have the seasons be summer and winter. There'd also be some planets on said half of the galaxy exploiting mechanics from galaxies based around said season. Like for summer, having those crabs and a swimming section. For winter, some kind of maze with the blizzard effect and something with skating on ice. Feel free to use any of those ideas if you want :P

Oh! So maybe, the first star would have the seasons in order and you have to solve the puzzle or something, and the second one, the main planet is rearranged or something, and as you travel to the mini-planets, the are a mix-up of elements, like there are those beach crabs in autumn, and there'd be those frozen balls of whatever in the middle of spring. Something like that to show a mix-up of seasons. Maybe we could have a boss, which belongs to one season, but with a battlestage of another season?

*ahem* Sorbetti in Autumn/Fall *ahem* :3

Idk, maybe this isn't the best place for a boss...

Or Sorbetti on a beach?

And we can have like that mole guy in ice or something? idk really

Ok so I posted in this in the IRC and received no response so here it is:

I had this melody that I quickly wrote down and added chords to (so there are only strings so far) and just wanted to see if it might fit anywhere before continuing (last time, I wrote just an intro and it was bad, so...)

Thoughts?

Um... can we suggest ideas for new galaxies here then?

like maybe a mario kart galaxy?

There was already a galaxy very loosely based on Rainbow Road from Super Mario Kart. Also, if you wish to suggest a galaxy, you're going to need some drawings and a basic idea for what Star 1 should be. You should probably put it in "general level design".

Ok, I'll see what I can do.

Oh. I was aiming for a Gusty Garden/Cloudy Court kind of feel.

Maybe I should add some brass/wood?

Of course I'd add more instruments (right now there are only violins and violacellos !) but I didn't want to get too far. I was just asking about the melody.

I just listened to it. Its not bad. The tune is pretty cool and I agree with NWP, it does sound like the inside of a tree.

But the quality is meh and there are some tempo issues that really hold this piece back.

I really suggest getting a better soundfont.

Sadly, I don't have any money to spend online, so I have to resort to free ones. If you know of any good free ones, Id be glad to try them out!

And yes, I'll see what I can do with the tempo. That was the default tempo, and I just quickly made it so I didn't worry too much about tempo or dynamics.

I'll see if I can do something today or if I'll have to wait until the weekend. (T.T AP homework is killing me...)

The more I play the original SMG, the more I want an observatory. The starship just seems so boring in comparison to such a beautiful comet observatory.

But, the domes probably won't work, so there probably won't be any reason to make it big, but I would like a hub to explore and fly in.

(If someone could get dome-like things to work, that'd make the hub so much better IMO, even if it were just using the domes to access each map.)

Oh, speaking of bunnies, even though I hate (timed) bunny chases, maybe there could be a circular planet with four different seasons as quadrants, and a bunny chase on there. (Just a suggestion, even though I don't really like it)

I really liked the more puzzle-type ones, like flip-swap or beat block, purple coins (untimed! wait did they have those in smg2?), um and any common level in general (those that didn't require stupid "challenge" or whatever like clearing trash or scoring points)...

MG3 is it possible to have the choir sing different kinds of sounds, like not just "ooooo"? It'd be cool to have like a latin choir singing something during the climax of your EotU piece.

*cough*

I think that'd require having a real choir sing and record it...

wow wow wow ok ok ok ok i sound really immature and rushed right now

but I was just on tumblr and I saw the newest post with your song "Edge of the Universe Heavy" and it's like the best thing ever like how do you write music that well I love it sooooo much

Oh oops sorry I forgot this isn't tumblr and perhaps I should try to use some grammar but...

Yeah, earlier I was browsing through here, and tried to listen to it, but it didn't work, so I just ignored it, but now that I listen to it (like right now) I think it's really amazing so maybe I should just give up on composing because you can write everything and make everything like 239209x better

Oops. Lapsed into more tumblr-like writing, but seriously, I'm really excited because this is super cool :D
