Luigi's Mansion DS
is a hack project I am doing in my spare time. It uses the F.L.U.D.D source code by Flachra and also uses OBJ importing.

I just started working on it, but I'll lay out out what it will be.

The Concept
The bottom screen will be the Gameboy Horror. It will have the map and also show information on the coins, gold, and money you collected.

Right now, it's really early but expect updates in the next few weeks.

Release Plans
Unlike other projects, I will release betas as I work on this, they will be minor, the first beta I plan to release will have the mansion, a few ghosts, toads, and poltergeist. Remember that the early betas will not represent the final product in any way.

What It will be like
The player model will be changed to a low-poly version of the Luigi's Mansion player model.

The Caps will be replaced by nozzles. Like the Water nozzle and fire nozzle, and will be available when you need them in the game.

I can't help but be concerned when you're making box art for this hack when, as far as I can tell, you have no actual hacking progress to show.


I made that boxart before I even started working on the project. Don't worry, I should have some progress to show in a few days.

Right now I don't know when it wil be done for sure, but maybe a beta release in a month or so.

Yea, I'm planning to use custom characters. I actually plan to have E. Gadd as a playable character, He'll replace Wario. You'll be able to switch to him by talking to E. Gadd at his lab. If you want to play as Luigi again, he'll be in E. Gadd's lab. After you talk to him you can play as Luigi again.

(E. Gadd will slower than Luigi, but it will be eaiser to catch ghosts with him.)

in the first place, since it was getting too hard for him due to his old age, if anything, it should be harder to catch Ghosts with him.


Yeah, I actually forgot to mention that he will have lower HP then Luigi does considering how old he is. Now that you mention it, I'll make E. Gadd faster, but it will be harder to catch ghosts with him.

Yeah, I've modeled before. The thing I'm mostly doing with my models is lowering the poly count of existing models, which usually works out. I've also tooled around with OBJ importing, I did some tests were I swapped the models of a character for a new one. (like replacing the boo model with the goomba model, which was just a test. the result was pretty strange though.) I'm new to animations however, but I'm learning. So far, I've added a new idle for luigi. It's really early though and could use some fixing up. As for ASM, I've tooled with that before and have a basic knowledge of how to use it, but I'm also learning more about it atm.

EDIT/UPDATE:

I'm finishing up the models right now, and I'm going to start importing the mansion exterior model. The toads are being retextured right now, and I'm finishing up the low-poly version of E. Gadd. Stay tuned for more updates!

Turns out the mansion wasn't low-poly enough. Game lags severely when playing the game. Gonna have to start from scratch again. Shouldn't take as long though.

Sorry for the long break, just getting back on track with the hack.
Right now I know a bit more about modelling, so I think I can make
the low-poly models easily. First thing I'm going to do it make a new
Luigi model.



Actually, I found the low-poly luigi model from melee. I'll try using that and see if it works.

Interesting project, hope it's all going fine - I was never a fan of LM games but I think this hack is well executed and done. Slightly off-topic but how did you come to meet MrPr1993 - I know him too, good modeler and quite a nice guy.

I just found his model online, already asked him if I can use it for my hack.

That's what I'm trying to do now. I have to edit it so it's just the mansion though.
