Even more pointless (and horrible to look at) when it's www.subdomain.realdomain.com. And when someone puts www in their email address, like www.nekholm@hotmail.com. Why would you do that!?

I remember seeing a site years ago that used www.www.mydomain.com or some ungoldy abomination like that. Thankfully I never saw it again.

I have been lurking here for years and registered a few months ago. I have always seen this place as a comfy place to be. Everyone's friendly (or try to) and doesn't really look to change.

Sweet!

So, what games are you gonna play with that?

NSMBWii in Dolphin

I have a rather decent PC that I use mostly to play the Taiko no Tatsujin games on Dolphin. I could probably wake my lazy butt and try to make a hack for it... Or continue playing and trying to get all my gold crowns.

osu is overrated and its scoring is garbage

"New"

Petya has been around for some time already. This is mostly an update to it to use the same exploit as WannaCry.

Still, keep off-site backups (and backups of those backups!) and the usual in case of an attack.

So, wait...is this patch separate from the WannaCry one? I would've thought so, but this:
seemingly indicates otherwise...??

I wasn't properly informed at the time so I went with that assumption that it was just an upgrade of the original Petya (or NotPetya as how it's called now).

By now, I did read a bit more on the ransomware, and this is what I found:

  • The worm won't encrypt at all if you create the file C:\WINDOWS\perfc.dat as read-only. It will still try to propagate itself, though.
  • It doesn't travel outside it's own /24 network, making me think it was a targeted attack.
  • Its email was shutdown so the infected users won't be able to recover their files... Oops?
  • It encrypts offline in a modified chkdisk terminal. The process starts as soon you see the message, so you can turn off the PC ASAP, plug the drive into another PC and copy your files away (and possibly format the infected drive).

This article could help as some reading material.

And FWIW: You can run almost if not every windows ransomware on Linux, with the help of a little thing called Wine.

It's far cheaper to rent your own VPS, domain and set it up to work with ShareX for easy and unrestricted hosting.

By doing that $400 stunt, it means that they're rather desperate and are about to go down no matter what, and are taking TinyPic with them. Good riddance, I say.

From what I have read, the dump is only the exefs and the romfs. It could work but the Switch is a really large unknown at this point.

Just a FYI: Imgur is prone to block a site if it embeds images by a ton. It happened to another site I go to.

Anyone ever do something they would normally get in trouble for but nobody actually notices and when they finally do they don't care about it anymore?

Happened to me several times. At this point, I can't really care at all.

The best one out there was sparking a "war" between reddit and some websites for the sake of doing it.

I wonder how I got voted for best layout (even if I ended at 3rd.) Is my layout even that good?

Still, congratulations to the winners.

You could try Linode. It's like DigitalOcean but they don't accept PayPal, only credit/debit cards.

Personally, I host my stuff on an OVH dedi (about $64/mo for really decent specs) but it's really overkill if you aren't doing good stuff on it.

I use the opera build that came from the leaked source code from time to time. Good stuff and not so bloated compared to Chrome and its "I use 5 GB of RAM if I open facebook"

Presto was a good engine.

I mean, it's possible to pull of a Jul by including a mibbit iframe directly but why bother

Because Mibbit is crap. Most people use an Android phone, so they can use a client that works for them and call it a day.

spoilers: IRC does not translate well to touch screens and any good clients are inevitably going to be battery wasters anyway

I use quassel, and while it needs a server and tends to shit the bed real bad on channels with high traffic (10k+ users or so), it works real fine. Its mobile application is pretty good too for what it does.

Yes, but HTML can open a breach, for example a corrupted GIF or another file...

You can make some real weird stuff with svg files, though. HTML itself is harmless if you filter the tags and attributes that do the bad stuff...or crash IE, but that browser crashes if you look at it the wrong way anyway.

those idiots making crappy forks that change nothing

The mabi.pro guys? That's the only fork that comes to mind, if there's even a trace of the original software left.

Do netbooks even come with UEFI? Every netbook I ever used had BIOS but no a UEFI.

Maybe is because I went mostly for HP ones for light work or even some gaming but it glitched hard, even if what I wanted to run was PSO (and the small keys were a pain to deal with).

My recommendation?

- Look into swapping the hard drive to a 250GB at least, or go with a SSD.
- Customize your XP to use the least amount of RAM possible. SP3 fresh out of the box can be made to use about 200MB of RAM on a cold start if you disable the stuff you don't need on the service list, disable visual effects (for that Windows 2000 experience) and start disabling features (who needs Windows Search or Outlook Express? Not me).

If theres a bios setting that has "boot type" or similar with options "UEFI" or "Legacy" then it supports the capitalist, monopolising shit known as UEFI. The only reason W7 wont work with UEFI is because MS didnt bother updating graphical communications for it...

I remember that my old Pentium IV had 2 boot types, "Enhanced" and "Legacy".

Legacy mode was basically the same as the other but it it made the system report up to 256MB of RAM if you had more of it, disabled hyperthreading and other niceties that the BIOS allowed.

I used Firefox Developer Edition before but due to the stupid decisions that Mozilla is doing (WebExtensions are and will continue being a mistake), I moved to Waterfox.

Some extensions I use normally suffer a bit due to the change but it's nothing I can't manage... Except that DownThemAll! is missing the top frame so I can't maximize/minimize/move the window. Shame.
