2014 thread update in 2018 ? And resolutions one ? Do you think what I think... so what changed in these 3 years ? Anyway try to achieve your goals, your dreams, what it seems important to you. And hope that every year will be better than previous ones. This is very important.
As for me, resolutions don't work too much. I just try to be better everyday. That's the life. Be better and help people be better than you.

I had a weak Toshiba PC many years ago, and using it was a nightmare. Even the CPU weren't detected by CPU-Z. Now Toshiba stopped making portable computers. I understand why.
And many many years ago, I had a Windows NT PC, and a virus infected it. It corrupted the BIOS (yes before viruses were really ones) so it finished disassembled on my desk. Good life.

Something with a quad core CPU. Anything from Gen 8 would be good.

Gen 8=Gen 7=Gen 6
There aren't microarchitectural modifications between them, they are just marketing "EE" ("Extreme Edition", but it's better "Emergency Edition"). There are also Ryzen that are pretty good and polyvalent (but Intel stay better for gaming).
