Relevant to this thread: my tirade about how democracy has been eliminated in the US, and we're heading towards complete oligarchic rule.

USA needs a complete political overhaul. Abolish the Electoral College. Make voting mandatory a la Australia so that the elected officials actually represent what the majority of the people want instead of the wishes of the 40%-ish who actually vote. Make it a nonpartisan democracy. Maybe even make political parties illegal. George Washington (first American president) in his final address to the nation warned people not to form political parties as it would only divide them.
He's not turning in his grave right now, he's spinning as if in a blender.

We need social democracy - completely free capitalism is just asking for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer...then the rich take power in government...then suddenly, oligarchy. I think it should be a system similar to the Nordic countries. There's a reason Norway is probably the best country in the world to live in right now.

I'm going to stop now before this post turns into a rant.

I agree with the need for social democracy, but none of that will happen without fair elections. There's an entire thread of mine about this on the serious forum. Right now, our elections are easily manipulable, and there's likely been widespread election fraud going on for at least 20 years. Countless politicians are being installed into office who didn't actually win the votes of the people.

Elections in themselves imply that you trust an authority to count the votes and take the decision the result dictates.

Only way to be sure no cheating happens would be making the nation-wide vote counts visible at all times. Including reflecting the vote you just submitted. Then multiple people or whatever could witness the vote counts and notice any fraud.

If you rely on machines to count the votes, you are indeed forced to place your trust in a single entity. That's why the gold standard for election accuracy is publicly-observable hand counts of ballots. And that's what I hope for the US to adopt.

Well, its funny. I hear about how its hotter and hotter every month in the media. That each month, the temperature keeps on rising. But when I look at the data from multiple scientific organizations, they say the temperature has not risen in over 17 years. Which, is supported by their data. I think the IPCC has blown it way out of proportion (as well as the media) and it does not feel any hotter that it did 10 years ago. They are lying to us and do you know how I can tell? Its not called global warming anymore, instead, its put under the label of climate change. And the climate is always changing and it always has been.

So I am in favor of the Dakota access pipeline and the Keystone pipeline because I think that coal, oil, and gas are the way to go for the future as we learn how to effectively introduce practical renewable energy in substitution for fossil fuels. Anyway, you guys might think I hate the planet, but just because I don't believe in global warming, doesn't mean I want it to shrivel up and all that.

Overwhelming scientific consensus (over 95% of scientists) states that climate change is real and caused by humans. Not sure where you're getting your information from. Yes, the climate has always been changing, but the significant degree to which it is right now is not natural. Arguing that it's not happening because it "does not feel any hotter" is a dumb anecdotal argument; and "they changed the name from global warming to climate change" is a ridiculous myth: both terms have been used for the same amount of time, and "climate change" is more common in scientific literature.

Even if climate change wasn't real, it's nonsensical to call fossil fuels the way of the future. Burning them still causes harmful pollution to the air and water, extracting them causes collateral environmental damage (like leaking pipelines, and earthquakes and water poisoning from fracking), and our efforts to pursue them have led to countless destructive wars in the Middle East.

I just finished playing MITRE CTF, a cybersecurity competition that ran this weekend. My team, Darkside, was the top high school team and 2nd place overall. One of our best performances in a CTF yet, though the more prominent CSAW CTF also happening this weekend is partially responsible for that.
