MarioWiki sounds like a awful place, filled to the brim with morons, I'm glad that I never registered there. It's a shame that so many people are that immature.

They're not morons though, and I wouldn't call them immature either.

Well they pretty much cleaned up their act now. You have to give them credit for that. 6 years ago was a long time ago, everyone makes mistakes. It's best not to dwell on it.

I've been contributing there since 2009, it's not really that bad imo. I've been to worse places *cough cough GameFAQs*. It's just that how they handle their staff imo has flaws.

Like here in Kuribo64, I think a lot of the bad stuff has been said by people who were in hot water and breaking the rules anyway.

Though I still don't remember why Yami was banned various times, that was a really long time ago. It's not really like that any more. Some of the derpiness has toned down, from either some of us growing up (including me) and the staff learning from their mistakes.

Well at MarioWiki, we pretty much operate on a three strike system. Three bans, and you're pretty much permanently out.

Sometimes, people do deserve to be out permanently, but sometimes, some bans should have expired at that point.

I think in MarioWiki, there's at least one permabanned user who rerigged at least twice and got away with it. However, he's making some good contributions so I really don't want to point out that it could be this one guy who got permabanned.

Something doesn't feel right when a rerigged user making a lot of good contributions get banned because they were simply a sockpuppet of a perma'd one instead of being in really bad faith.

I patrol the recent changes frequently and I don't think that user has any bad faith at all, he's just a bit derpy.

I can tell it's him mostly because of his voting style and what he writes in the edit summaries.

Not sure if it's still possible on MarioBoards, but back when I were there, you could set PHP Files as your Avatar.
Back then, I wasn't aware of the risks yet, but now I can safely say, it's a very high risk.

I mean, it only takes to include a Cookie Theft JavaScript File into a PHP File, and Link to it.
And bam! You can Login as anyone, if you modify your Cookies!

However, I'm not sure whether SMF uses HTTP-Only Cookies or not.

I know a user there sets his avatars to be set on certain threads (Lakituthequick). Like, in a thread about the weather, he has his avatar holding an umbrella; a Mario Kart-thread shows his avatar driving a go-kart; a thread that talks about how stupid Miiverse is has his avatar face-palming, etc.

I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about but it stands out to me, since you normally can't do that with the functions in those boards.

What made him crack, the banning of further ask threads? Or was he always like this?

The site has 17,074 articles. We get an average of than 500 edits per day. The front page weekly polls typically get more than 1000 votes a week. I don't know where I can get the viewing statistics, but it should be a lot.

The staff is composed of 13 people, 4-5 which aren't even that active (and one of them is dead, yet still listed as a staff member)

I only think the reason they made it nonnegotiable is, y'know, like other forums such as here, derps asking for power and stuff when they're clearly not qualified. They don't want to bother with that, which is completely understandable.

Yeah I completely agree with. But despite how long I worked at MarioWiki, I just wondered if I had ever been considered. The most I got was autopatrolled, meaning my edits are automatically marked as patrolled but that's really it.

I don't want power, I just want to help out. I like to stop vandals on their tracks before they flood the recent changes with their horrible edits. I'd like to participate in their staff discussions first and foremost as well. I'd like to clean up deletions of images and articles.

I think the only thing holding me back is my gruff attitude but I really can't help it.
