Posted on 07-09-12 05:17 PM, in About the ObjectDB and Obj_args (rev. 2 of 07-09-12 05:17 PM) Link | #142
As you may already have noticed, the ObjectDB now shows 'object in-game data' for each object, like the NSMB SpriteDB. I wrote code to parse all of SMG1 and SMG2's levels and save informations about each and every object, namely, where and how it is used, the Obj_args used, etc...

According to some statistics of mine, there are 105 objects that are marked as Complete, but have varying Obj_args that are undocumented. (an undocumented Obj_arg is an Obj_arg that can have values other than 0xFFFFFFFF but isn't documented)

Objects with undocumented Obj_args can't be marked Complete, so I'm tempted to set them back to Incomplete. I might also make it impossible to check the Complete checkbox if there are undocumented Obj_args or the object isn't properly named.

Aside from this, all the objects and their possible Obj_args being into the database, it'll be easier to find out Obj_args and what they do. Similarly, we'll also know which file each object must be placed in. Or files. There are 5 objects which are used in two different types of files. For example, BlackHoleCube is mostly used in ObjInfo (Obj) but it's also used in AreaObjInfo (AreaObj).

I appreciate the work that has been done on the ObjectDB so far, but it isn't a race, getting everything documented correctly no matter the time is better than getting everything done in one week imo. But of course, testing isn't really easy right now. That's why we should first work on making Whitehole usable...

Thanks, this seems like it'll be useful. :)

Is there source code availabe with those tools, too? It would help making a model importer for Whitehole a lot.

Well thanks, that'll be helpful :)

Also, does it generate good collision maps, or do they have holes or other bugs?

Hmmokay, this is interesting.

Though, merging it with Whitehole would require a rewrite, and gah I don't know shit about Python... and for now there are higher priorities for Whitehole.

Nice job. However you might want to fix that part where the floor is transparent. Also, the track in general could use better texturing, like the rainbow following the track rather than being all straight, better borders, etc... and you could raise the 'death floor' too, it's annoying when you fall to stay falling for over 5 seconds before actually 'dying'...

There's also the part with that violent turnaround, where you keep hitting the wall. If you have to put a wall to prevent players from falling, you need to fix your track's design.

Edit- about that transparent floor part. Wouldn't it be related to backfaces? Or a quad with edges crossed or something? The DS renders improper quads weirdly or not at all, so make sure you don't have any of those (or have triangulated your model).

Oh well, you did a nice job whatsoever, and it's a nice thing that custom tracks in MKDS are possible. I'm just providing constructive criticism to help you improve your track :)

Introductions are recommended but they're optional. In any case, Rydia comes from other boards among which Kafuka (linked in my sig).

Rydia: yes :) pretty much a second incarnation of Kuribo64. Like all those incarnations of Acmlm's Board (Kafuka being yet another one, kinda).

Welcome to the board, Gerry, Rydia and anyone I may have missed; feel welcome here ;)

MK7tester: Ay See Em El Em ;) Acmlmboard. It's a nice unique board software.
And you'd be right, I hope to meet lots of new people too :P

I entered that title manually. If you want I can remove it.

Reminds me I really need to redo that groups stuff...

Heh, good times. I used to like Board2 at the time I got unbanned from there.

But then the activity started declining, and blackhole89 being desperate doesn't help anything...

lol yeah, I saw the threads. They're still in the General forum, and Xkeeper's latest rereg was banned after 59 posts. That says something, really. :)

That reminds me of when I got unbanned. He also reregistered to complain about it. :P

Erm this thread is about SMG tools, guys... if you wanna discuss about MKDS custom tracks, there's a forum for that ;)

Depends. If it's just matter of a one-instruction fix, it's easily doable. If the object's code was deleted, well, things get harder. It's possible to make it working but it'll never be like the original one.

What is really awesome is when you melt white chocolate on them. Or a mix of white and brown chocolates.
