IRC/discord chats are volatile. you can keep logs but after a while they get big and hard to navigate.

dunno about subreddits. reddit feels pretty much like one of those social networking platforms where it's a constant stream of new content, and thus looking for anything old is going to be a pain. (for example because you end up constantly scrolling down or clicking a 'previous page' button)

messageboards aren't a good fit for quick, instantaneous discussion, but they're good at preserving things. and dunno, I feel more at home on a little cozy board than a subreddit.

what happened between you and the smg 2.5 team? I saw I thread (I can't find the article now) maybe it was a joke and I'm just and idiot but, It said you had to stop the smg2.5 project due to constant drama and other people trying to take over the board? It was prolly just a joke that I took seriously.

long story short:

* I make a SMG1/2 editor and post about it
* SMG2.5 guys approach me about it
* foolish me thinks this is finally the occasion to be working on a cool project with skilled hackers, akin to Newer
* can't really say it was a team of skilled hackers
* regardless, I offer them to move to K64 (from their Proboards board) to make a strong SMG hacking scene together
* they accept
* it's full of constant drama, but with enough mod/admin work from your overlord and cosmological, we eventually get it under control
* they take Glem3 as their supreme overlord -- a person who basically didn't care about the project, and only showed up once per month to basically reject all progress that had been done in the month and then go back under their rock
* nothing ever gets done -- 3 years in and all we had to show was a few sketches. the sheer amount of bad decisions didn't help either, like, making content solely for the trailer and discarding it afterwards. but ALL HAIL GLEM3
* nothing gets done with Whitehole either. "oh yeah we'll help you with it" and all I ever got was some drawn UI design. other than that they mostly remained consumers, sitting and waiting for me to make the editor, with the occasional "Whitehole doesn't do X so I'm reverting to Anarchy". doesn't really help motivation.
* and the occasional drama due to the guys putting their ego above the project. you can figure.

SMG2.5 was a failure and is best forgotten.

maybe decent moderation from day one would have given a different outcome. but instead, Glem3 didn't give a shit. so in the end, the good members left, and it was already too late when I came into the mix -- all that was left was the dramakids arguing for a 'job' sticker.

what's your computer setup?

* Pancake -- laptop that is somewhat Macbook-y (but not a Mac), 2.4GHz CPU, some weird glitches, touchscreen that serves no real purpose other than letting dumb friends annoy you (and surprises those people who can't point at shit on a screen without touching it)
* large HD monitor that is absurdly bright (I'm not even joking, it can light your room well at full brightness), and can theoretically do 3D but I have nothing that uses it
* sound system
* wired mouse
* might add one of those printers I salvaged a while ago

I'm attracted by the technical aspect of these things (romhaxing, emulation). reverse-engineering things, figuring out nifty ways to achieve things that weren't planned or intended.
