I don't like it.

IRC has the advantage that it is entirely autonomous and decentralized. you can decide to run your own server and you only depend on your ISP or server host.

with Discord, your "server" is merely a group that exists within Discord's infrastructure. it's centralized, managed by one big actor. basically, IRC reflects what the internet was originally intended as (open, decentralized), Discord reflects what the internet is becoming (centralized and controlled by a few big entities, like Google, Facebook, etc...).

Discord has no client other than the trendy "embed the web version into an UI-less Chrome" version. hope you like your chat client consuming 300+ megabytes of RAM.

then again maybe in some shitty future 300MB will be considered lightweight.

what does Discord do that IRC doesn't? oh yeah, you can post dumb emoji. cool.

Capitalism isn't "the root of the problems arising from hurricanes", but trying to sell water packs for $42 when there are people in desperate need for attention is wrong. Hell, where do you even see water packs being sold at such ridiculous prices in normal situations?

the best I got as """"lucid"""" dreams was mostly my subconscious trolling me by producing a dream that felt somewhat lucid but was still pretty much controlled by the subcon and not me

ie. I had that weird feeling I could control the dream, but it was still pretty much following its own script


I remember that dream though, when I was a kid

because I had found something I was after IRL, and got happy

then something changed randomly, and I got disappointed, clearly thinking "oh no, this is a dream"

and they say that when you know you're dreaming, it's lucid

reminds me of those dreams I had sometimes where it felt like it was real, but, for example, it was overly dark, and stayed very dark no matter how many light sources were added


or some kind of nested dream where the dream turns nightmarish, waking me up, but I wake up and jump to the light switch in the dream before actually waking up
