if you "know you will make something" just like you made an emulator for a console you invented, well...

New Super Mario Bros: the Mushroom Kingdom is plunged in eternal darkness because Bowser turned off the lights.

other than that, it's suddenly in English. I guess it's because I'm using the USA ROM. it corresponds to the nice .idb they have at NSMBHD, which makes debugging more convenient.

from there, you can play the minigames, sorta. with more or less crapoed graphics. bottom screen lacks sprites due to issues regarding VRAM mapping. minigames that use 3D graphics just freeze.

the game also freezes when trying to play the main game.

the layout maker was meant to be an easy way for people to make post layouts, but in the end everybody picked a preset and barely changed it (or sometimes, didn't change it at all).

in the end, pretty much everyone admitted that the layout maker was bad and shouldn't be provided, or should be revamped. the only person who still persists on providing said layout maker is the same person who keeps making a new derpboard every day. you guessed, Jamie the nolife with a billion names.

mostly dedication I guess, and me having mostly nothing to do until March :P

anyway, current status, with a few tested games:

* NSMB: as described above.
* SM64DS: freezes when starting a game, but minigames playable. 3D graphics missing, main menus are garbled.
* MKDS: boots but fails to access its save.
* Worms 2: plays an intro FMV at a crappy speed. no idea if it works past there, no 3D graphics.
* Rayman DS, Rayman RR2, Super Princess Peach: black screen.

friendly tip: don't make the background fixed. your layout doesn't rely on it, and that saves users from some lag.

so Firefox is already at it.

right now, it seems to only show up if the page contains a password field, but... it does show that "omg HTTP is unsecure" icon.

I'm not opposed to more security if we have a proper, mature infrastructure to support it. Right now, getting a HTTPS certificate is either "pay lots of money and maybe get good service" or "cheap/free but service is crap and we don't give a shit".

In the current state of things, deprecating HTTP looks pretty much like an attempt at restricting the web to the rich. Just like the web browser market is an oligopoly that may eventually become a Webkit monopoly.

Ideally, HTTPS certificates should be provided along with domains when you register those.

HTTP over HTTPS, pros and cons:

pros:
* doesn't require dealing with CAs
* is set up easily
* works always
* is easily implemented in amateur projects
* oh and doesn't complain if images or other meaningless assets happen to be loaded over an unsecure connection

cons:
* not suitable when sensitive data are being transferred.
* in the event someone wants your Kuribo64 password and happens to be on your network, they can sniff it. chance of this happening is generally low.
* similarly, they could sniff posts being posted in the staff forums. not like we're using said forums to exchange nuclear codes.
* is eventually going to be deprecated because the CA lobby is pushing HTTPS to make more money and restrict the web to the rich make everyone secure

I would add that HTTP is also vulnerable to shit like reckless ISPs tampering with webpages, but it's been shown that similar attacks are also possible over HTTPS.

more threats to the free internet

basically, Youtube had deleted a channel that hosted climate science videos, although it's back now.

but regardless, we are in great need of a truly free internet that isn't under the control of megacorporations or governments.

well, Youtube has a history of giving in to any takedown request to cover their asses, so this isn't entirely new or surprising.

it's just way bad for the free internet, seeing that a) Google is based in Trumpistan and b) things are generally going down the shitter.

dunno if it needs that many DLLs, but that's definitely something I need to check. it requires atleast one apparently.

also, pls don't spread that build.
