But it should be an option for us to decide. Is YouTube remembering where you left off, an optional feature?

It's optional, but it's either "on for all videos" or "off for all videos". There is a page for managing watched videos in which you can delete stuff that you don't want there, but its layout is not very intuitive, much different from a browser's history page for example.

Overall I can see why it's useful (because accidentally exiting the page happens fairly oftenly) but I still prefer having it off.

I never had too much trouble with YouTube remembering where you left off. I could do without it in song videos but most other cases, I prefer it on.

In case you thought YouTube's random testing of dumb features wasn't stupid enough...

now they have a "chat" feature for no fucking reason as if Google didn't already have enough chat apps. Who is ever going to use this

• Nadia: makes her BQFX file an AJ7
• SuperHackio: questions what that is
<~StapleButter> the AJ7 is an automatic rifle model based on the well-known AK47

They removed the PM function. They claimed it was barely used: unsurprising since they broke notifs for it & channel discussion this time last year

Why is it so hard to find my sister's older uploaded content? I don't recall it being so convoluted or difficult.

All of a sudden, the title and playback bar don't fade out completely while watching a full screen video. Instead it fades a bit so it's almost not visible, but still very visible. I see others are having this issue as well. Annoying.

It's already annoying enough to not be able to screenshot it without it disappearing completely.

I hate how every video I watch now is covered with annotations at the end.

And also I dislike how you can't filter out certain videos by date/relevance within a YouTube channel when you go searching for a video within that channel.

Now whenever you search within a channel you have to look for the most relevant video out of ALL of the videos listed in that channel.

Yeah that sucks. Unless the video has an outro, you miss the last bits of the video. This one's the uploaders's fault though. They're the ones who choose to put them there or not.

That's not a bad idea, just did it myself. Thanks for the suggestion!

So.... in the light of the COPPA thing, why is Google tracking children's data, and why is Google shifting responsibility to content creators?

Dunno but once LineageOS + MicroG or /e/ get to a stable build I'mma download it for my phone. It'll be interesting to see how long I can go without Google Services on my phone.

Although I think I'd just wind up using web versions of a lot of Google Serviced-apps.

They'll still find some horrible way of tracking you. It's really hard to avoid that crap all together.

I just don't wanna use Google products and be bound to their unreadable ToS and Privacy Policies, tracking or no tracking.

But the good thing about Google is that you can download your account data and set your account to self destruct under certain conditions. So I'll give them props for that atleast.
