well, yeah

TheKoopaKingdom's post made me think about this. as well as the general decline in activity here.

Kuribo64 was a fun ride, but... yeah.

recentering over general discussion hasn't worked too well.

doesn't help that Discord has taken over, either. urgl.

people, myself included, prefer using IRC or Discord or whatever for everyday chatter.

romhaxing seems to have entirely moved to Discord, so not much we can do, I think.

so, what do we do with this board?

I know I haven't posted in a while. Its disappointing to see K64 in this state. I would love it if K64 was archived as there is quite a lot of useful SMG and SM64DS content.

You've done a great job keeping it running Arisotura!

tbh, it's been through so many incarnations already. SMG2.5, SM64DS, the politicalboard (the 'shit's going down' thread resulting from the beginning of my leftisation), etc...

at this point it doesn't have much else going for it. both the SMG2.5 and SM64DS communities are entirely gone or almost.

'general discussion' isn't cutting it, either.

tbh, it saddens me a bit that the board ends up this way after 6.5 years of service. but eh, it can't be going on forever.

Eh, I thought Kuribo64 was a nice little place to stay in.

More importantly, are we moving to Discord server now?

who said anything about becoming a Discord?

we still have an IRC channel. and besides, I'm not touching Discord with a ten meter pole.

archive and close.
Theres alot of good documentation on this board and it should be able to shown still.
I think, we could do discord. But, its defiantly not going to be as popular as the board. Its worth a shot I guess.
Honestly though, who still uses IRC?

I'm honestly going to say archive.

This board has brought me many good memories, and I love it to death, but goddamn is this place barren.

Only the really really dedicated ever decide to come back here, and honestly I don't think it's worth trying to rekindle the activity if it'll take at least one week to start supporting the discussion and/or start a new discussion.

We all know why it's dying, and it does make me sad, but I do think it's time for it to close down. And hey, at least we'll have a proper ending (RVLution it's been 2 years LMAO).

Fuck it, I'm in the mood:
USERS I APPRECIATE THE MOST (in no particular order):
Isaac: we've been through a lot bro, it's been lit having you around to talk about boards
Arisotura: you are probably one of the best staff i've ever met, i'm gonna miss having you around since i don't use IRC a ton, but hey, there's twitter
LGM and BL: Our arguments about the best Mario characters are pretty funny, especially how we try to validate them. Also I'm the best in L4D2 don't DM me
gridatttack: three t's is still fucking stupid, but goddamn talking to you about gc controllers was really rad, and I hope we eventually play smash, maybe in ultimate?
shibboleet: you are a special kind of weird, but it's a really nice kind of weird, you are just pretty fuckin funny too
Thierry: oh you know it honey
(no offense if you're not on here, you're probably really cool)

As much as it saddens me, I think archiving would be the best way to go.

It still amazes me that the board has been up from such a long time; all the memories and people I've met through here, etc.

However I feel that boards in general died out when instant messaging became more readily available to use with simple configuration from the user./minimal configuration Also I guess most of the early members who were really active, they just... grew up? (as in, they went with their lives/focused on other things) Not to mention the decline of rom hacking in general.

Still, if the board will be archived, please let us know in advance <3 (Don't want to be taken by surprise

also lmao I hope you already know how the 3 t's came to be, right? xP
And sure, hmu on other platforms. You can reach me out more reliable at Steam and then Discord. I still play Smash regularly. :>

Kuribo64 was a fun ride, but... yeah.

oh, general chat doesn't keep up activity simply because the board's identity lies within ROMhacking. it's what draws people in, so to speak. general is a side-dish.

it's pretty clear at this point the board's lifespan end is at hand, but hey. it's not too bad.

it's been a good run. I'm happy to see it go with a surge rather than let it die out.

There's been a few rom hacks in active development that still have a somewhat active thread here. I think it would only be fair to give the OPs of those threads time to announce where we can further follow their progress. After, you could think about archiving.

I don't see why it should be taken as a fatality to close it.
Like you can let it open, so at the same time it will keep going whatever the activity, and at the same time "archived" as people can access previous contents.

you can move to my forum umodcommunity.idstudio.live k thx if k64 closes it will be a place of less where I can advertise
I still don't get why people like to destroy what they build for years, like wars.

also, re: IRC

I'm against the forced march of progress for the sake of progress, especially if it means we dump something that is open and allows anyone to make their own server or client, in favor of a completely proprietary and closed-down solution (the fact they rage about users customizing their interface should say a lot)

anyway, taking note of your posts there

I wish I had more in common with you guys that I could meaningfully post here some more.

Because I like some of you guys, but I can't absorb any info from large posts. And I'm not into/haven't done that many mutually interesting things.

But I will Discord some of you guys and maybe have Netplay sessions every now and then.

Netplay is a language that we all speak. Or a language that I speak fluently.
................

But yeah this place has got good hacks and great documentation on such hacks. I'd want to download this archive if it ever happens for local use. This is one for the harddrives.

................

We could try using IRC or Mastodon. I hear Mastodon is another good social platform.

But any platform's good or bad, depending on how you use it.

wow... kuribo finally takes its end, huh?

i can't believe it, really. never thought about it much. but wow. i can't even make myself choose an option, i just don't want this to happen that bad. not that i don't want to participate in like the last k64 poll, but that i just can't make myself come to terms with the fact that there even is a last. (this is, of course, assuming someone doesn't make a new thread with a poll)

i was originally writing a really long thing but i realized that's probably better suited for my bio. so uh, check that out, if you want. i think it's nice.

with that being said... i'll miss occasionally checking this place at school. as much as i'd like for there to be a k64 discord server, i uh, don't think arisotura really wants to, considering their response to swingball. plus, it really, really wouldn't be the same.

can't believe i'm gonna be saying goodbye to the site i never knew i lurked soon. gonna miss you all.

that being said, right now nothing really prompts to archive the board

that will happen if either
a) I end up unable to regularly maintain the board, or
b) it becomes so inactive that the only posts are spambots

neither of which are the case for now.

so dunno

I'm glad that you're taking this serious look at the future of the board. I pretty much agree with everything that has been said so far, that, as a general discussion board, Kuribo64 can't really be what it once was. Having said that, it's been an amazing run. The fact that this board has seen two iterations of hacking scenes over 6 years is remarkable. Another factor (kinda indirectly) stated is that, the traditional idea of a "forum" is a dying breed. Taking a quick look at board2 and Kafuka, they seem to be doing alright-ish, and then most other boards of this kind have died out. Unfortunately, I'm inclined to say that this not as much of the game scenes themselves dying, but just the idea of these boards losing traction, with the most board-y forums being out there being Discourse.

Discourse, in my experience, is smooth and easy to use. But it still lacks the feeling of using a board, and having the stability of easily seeing all of the threads, and deleted posts. K64's board software is, easily, the most intuitive and fast forum I've ever used, which I'm going to miss.

To touch upon the more sentimental stuff I mentioned in my original reply, even if it doesn't appeal to me anymore, these forums still do mean a lot to me. If they do go, then it would be sad to see, but it's been a great run regardless.
