For super Mario galaxy 1/2, could you add new objects to the game?

You'd have to code them in yourself, which at the moment is impossible without an intricate knowledge of the Wii's computer architecture.

While I was writing this I thought of a potential extension of this question. Could we add duplicate objects so we can use their same function with different appearances? Like if I were to duplicate the Toad object to work with several different models to make lots of unique-looking NPCs that functioned the same way.
