so just as the title says, dolphin has massive frame rate drops on a laptop that has a lot of power. i have no clue to why it is doing it and i am getting pretty annoyed
[image]
as you can see dolphin isn't using my laptop till his fullest potential and there are a lot of other things running at the same time wich is strange concidering i just deleted all programs from my pc (reset o factory settings and shit like that). frame drops happen pretty commonly and seem to happen at random.

Update: this occurs when playing other games as well like running citra or playing rivals of aether, my laptop seems to have enough memory and processing power to run it but the programs still have consistant frame drops

ram: 8 GB
operating system: 64 bit
processor: intel core i-7500U cpu and nvidea geforce
controller (if that was what you asked for): left joy con controller
dolphin version: 5.0.0
dolphin setup: 720p resolution (the same problem occurs on the lowest resolution) and every other setting to the fastest

i hope someone has an answer for this

thank you in advance

We are very advanced with Nvidea Geforce. You are sure it isn't a Nvidia Nforce or a ATI Rage 256 ? Please give us detailled infos.

That PC should be able to run Dolphin at playable speeds, I have an awful awful bulldozer laptop that can still run stuff like Melee at 60FPS (Melee is one of less demanding games overall actually). What games are you trying? Also, mind posting all your Dolphin settings? Screenshots would be ideal.

This setup should play things like Melee and Brawl and maybe MKWii. Also don’t forget titles like Skyward Sword and Mario Galaxy are the hardest to emulate. Also, $1k isn’t much for a laptop if the target is gaming.

my computer is similar to yours, but just a little stronger (not by much). it can play mario kart wii at its lowest settings "decently", so don't expect your computer to do any better on the same settings. if it helps, here is a tip to make dolphin (or any program for that matter) run "faster":
turn off your computer, then turn it back on. as soon as you are able to, enter airplane mode (if you are using bluetooth controllers just turn off wifi) and immediately start up dolphin, nothing else. this way, the computer isn't doing much else in the background and it can focus more power onto dolphin.

i am trying to run kirby's return to dreamland and it was running fine a few months ago it ran fine even with multiplayer. after I resetted my computer (kept the files) everything ran like shit: Kirby, Oot 3d (citra) and Paladins (paladins works now for some reason)

it's in dutch so i hope you have enough information[image][image][image]

Alright then, try this: Download the latest nightly off https://dolphin-emu.org/download/ (as of writing this it's 6265, 6267 is android only), and use that instead. Change your Graphics Backend from Direct3D 11 to Vulkan, and enable Store EFB Copies to Texture only. Also make sure Dual Core is on, that should be in the other config window.

Upon rereading your post though, if Dolphin used to work and now it's slower, perhaps the problem is something else. You said it's a laptop, is it on high performance mode in the battery settings? Do you have your GPU drivers up to date? Make sure they're the latest version, usually that's a good thing, unless the latest version has issues, I don't use Nvidia at all so I'm not quite sure.

Set your Dolphin to English next time you're sharing screenshots. I'm speak Dutch fluently so I have no issue translating what you've shared, but others might not have this luxury.

Citra running decently on your PC is an anomaly lol. Again, your CPU is utter crap so don't expect anything. Dolphin became silghtly more accurate over the years so it'll run slightly slower.

checked for updates and no updates are found, my computer is on high performance mode, dual core is on and turned on store to ebf copies only but i can't change Direct3D 11 to Vulkan (vulkan doesn't show up) so what's up with that

the strange thing that a notice is that my laptop has enough power to run the program but doesn't use that leftover power, i don't know if i need to change anything in my computer to change that cuz i think the problem lies by the laptop not allowing programs to use my laptop till it's fullest or something

but thank you for your advice i hope it helps

For Vulkan to show up, you need to install the latest nightly, as I said in my previous post. Download it, and extract to a folder somewhere, and run it. Or, just try DX12, it'll be buggy most likely but it might work.

But even that sounds off, if it used to work then the backend that used to work should still work. It's very likely that something wasn't reinstalled correctly, or there's something hogging resources. I couldn't tell you what without seeing it for myself though.

i don't think i found what's wrong but i may found something, when i open task manager i see a lot of things running, even when i am running nothing it is using 33% of my memory even after completely resetting my computer (deleting all apps). also keep in mind that the game doesn't constantly lagg but that it happenes in spikes

Maybe try uninstalling McAfee? Maybe it's thinking Dolphin is a threat or something.
