How many of you guys here heard of Johnny's Italian Steakhouse? They're a restaurant chain with locations in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas and Texas. Their first location opened in Des Moines, Iowa in 2002 with their second location opening in Moline, Illinois later that same year. They are owned by Heart of America group which was first known to the public as the owners of the Iowa Machine Shed with their first location opening in Davenport, Iowa in 1978 with other locations being found in Des Moines, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Other restaurants owned by this company include; Thunder Bay (Davenport, IA, Rockford, IL and Milwaukee Wisconsin), Grandma's Kitchen/Checkered Flag (Walcott, Iowa), J Bar (Davenport, Iowa, Olathe, Kansas) and I'm probably forgetting a few brands. They also had a few other restaurants such as Planted Earth Café (which was remodled and rebranded into the Moline Johnyy's) and The Captains Table (Moline, Illinois) which still exists afer being brought back from bankruptcy by a different company. The food served here is really good and is a combination of Italian, Steaks, Chicken, and Seafood, and features dishes such as beef wellington, prime rib, chicken piccata, chicken parmesan, wood fired salmon, etc. Their sides include items such as mashed potatoes, baked potatoes (you can get it loaded with cheese, sour cream, butter, bacon and chives) broccoli I believe and several other sides. Their appetisers include Raviolli, Sausage on bread, Callimari, etc and you also get bread delivered to your table which you can dip into an olive oil, black pepper and parmesan cheese sauce you can make at the table (I think any restaurant that does the Italian, Steak, Chicken and Seafood concept does this)

This is a bio? Is this where I input Biology or Biography? And I'm pretty sure graphy is a suffix due to its usage in geography, photography, biography, and tomography.

Never heard of it. Probably because I'm in none of those states. So, er, you didn't really talk about the food there, funnily enough! How's the food?

The food is really good. They just rolled out a new menu recently as well and you get bread that you can dip in an olive oil dip made up of olive oil, black pepper and parmesan cheese that you make at the table. Many restaurants that do the Italian, steak, and seafood concept will most likely feature this. And you may have heard of Johnny's if you went on vacations in one of those states but just never realized it. A majority of their restaurants are usually found shared with another building (usually a Holiday Inn) although Moline's Johnny's is shared with John Deere and United Health Care and there are also a few free standing Johnny's as well. So if you were on vacation in any of these states, you may have heard of Johnny's but just never realized it since 1. It can blend in with the hotel and not be all that noticeable and 2. It's not really advertised a lot on the Interstate food signs (The ones found when an exit is approaching). The only one I've seen advertised from the interstate is for the one in Des Moines, Iowa (I've never seen Omaha, Nebraska's Johnny's advertised on the interstate).

how big is the food? I usually don't appreciate restaurants providing plates that can cover manholes.

Take a normal plate and make it a couple inches bigger. Not big enough to cover a manhole but they are big so you may be fighting for space if you go there with a big party and order appetizers and salads. When you first get to the table, you already have small plates on the table for the bread and olive oil dipping sauce, then if you order appetizers, you get more small plates plus the big plate(s) that hold the appetizers, then if you order a salad, you get a very cold, normal size plate, then when the food comes, you get plates that are a couple inches bigger than the cold, salad plates, which is due to the food being big. You get a very decent size main dish and a very decent size side. The stuff used when you order a loaded baked potato are huge. The cheese is big and "fatter" then most traditional store bought cheese although you can get this cheese at a store if you search the shredded cheese section. The bacon bits are huge as well, the butter looks like it was taken out with an ice cream scoop ala the butter found on pancakes at brunch places, and the chives are almost like green onions which are very similar to chives but bigger so who knows if they are even chives and not just green onions. Plus the potato is bigger than most potatoes you find at the store's produce department. So the big plates are used for a reason. Also, add on the drinks and you are really cramped for space. Most times when I've been there with the family, the wine/beer list gets moved to the floor so we have some room and that's even with the tables being bigger than most restaurants but the limited table space is worth it though since everything there is super yummy. Reservations are recommended if you go during dinner time. If any of you have plans to roadtrip to Moline, Illinois and have plans to go to the Johnny's there, check THIS website to make sure there are no events going on at the TaxSlayer center that may hinder your chances of getting a reservation/table. This is also recommended for the other restaurants in the downtown such as BierStube and Bent River and not just Johnny's. T.G.I Friday's is practically impossible to eat at when an event is going on at TaxSlayer center. Also the website for this place is Johnnysitaliansteakhouse.com
