As the IRC network that hosted our IRC channel is unmaintained and crumbling, we are moving the channel to a network that is in a better state.

irc.badnik.net / irc.rustedlogic.net
#kuribo64

Thank you.

as the legendary (?) quote goes

Nice, a new server where we can actually register with Nickserv!

also more convenient for me because i'm already on badnik for #tcrf

• Nadia: makes her BQFX file an AJ7
• SuperHackio: questions what that is
<~StapleButter> the AJ7 is an automatic rifle model based on the well-known AK47

This reminds me that I need to figure out how to set up an IRC daemon at some point on my Ubuntu 14.04 VPS. I've tried Inspircd and got it working but could not get the services to work no matter what. :(

Edit: I managed to get ircd-hybrid + anope working on my Ubuntu 14.04 VPS. Not advertising tho o_O

Not sure if I'd be accepted on BadnikZONE considering my bad past at Jul and Kafuka, otherwise I'd make a channel on their network. ^^

The main Kuribo64.net page don't have yet the IRC server name update.

Yeah, noticed that too.

We should have a in-Kuribo64.net IRC thing. To make it clearer: Have an IRC window right in the IRC page. Something like Discord online.
Maybe this is too much, but it's just an idea. ^^

Web IRC clients are generally a gateway for banned idiots to dodge their IRC bans. I'd vote against using one.

*snip*

if you're using a decent browser, since the link points to an IRC channel, clicking it should ask you to either use whatever local IRC client you have installed (ie: mIRC) or to use mibbit

I mean, it's possible to pull of a Jul by including a mibbit KiwiIRC iframe directly but why bother

Because Mibbit is crap. Most people use an Android phone, so they can use a client that works for them and call it a day.

KiwiIRC is probably the best one out there but it masks the hostname so...

We had one, for a while.

It was a Java applet, something insecure and bombarding users with scary warnings, and it crashed your browser half the time when loading.

It no longer works because its certificate has expired. It needs a certificate to be able to connect to external servers.

Mibbit/KiwiIRC/etc are an okay option as long as a) they're not full of ads and b) they don't act as a proxy and hide the user's identity. Part b) is the IRC server's responsibility.

I'll add that for a while, NSMBHD had a qirc page and had its own IRC server for that reason. It was technically neat, but the only newcomers who ever appeared on IRC were random idiots.

KiwiIRC isn't full of ads but it masks your hostname. It's already allowed on Badnik and Kiwi is actually linked to as a web IRC client on TCRF and Jul's IRC pages. Could potentially allow stupid people to bypass bans, however.

Anyway yeah the IRC page should probably be updated.

It'd be best probably to install a qwebirc client on the server directly, I don't think that one masks hostnames at all if you choose not to do so (or at least it displays a hexadecimal variant of the user's own hostname).

IRC on a phone?

that's a good one

spoilers: IRC does not translate well to touch screens and any good clients are inevitably going to be battery wasters anyway

Mutter isn't too bad for a mobile client, although it's iOS-only.

I use quassel, and while it needs a server and tends to shit the bed real bad on channels with high traffic (10k+ users or so), it works real fine. Its mobile application is pretty good too for what it does.

Mutter on iOS plus ZNC is perfect. Even has push notifications and all that fancypants stuff.

Compared with the crashing Discord application the decades old IRC is still years ahead on my iPhone :P

Discord is laggy on slow connections, hence why I prefer IRC :P

Plus the fact it translates to almost everything while Discord forces you to use their Electron-built application or mobile app...
