so the 3d view is trying to render for like 5 mins now with no result but my gfxcard is shitty so ill give it a bit more time ^^. thx again for the help and i guess ill be back as the next problem shows up ^^

Have you disabled shaders on Whitehole's configuration? It will make rendering A LOT faster...
But, it shouldn't take *that* long to render. Maybe your card doesn't support shaders at all?
Either way, try disabling shaders :P

Well Mega Mario, I did as you suggested and just opened a level, saved it, and inserted it. It froze at the start select screen just as all the other attempts did. So it must be something in the way it's saving the modified level.

actually thats not 100% true (likely though). it could be the way you patch your iso or load it that can be at fault here too. have you tried, for example, taking a file from the iso, and then patch the iso with the exact same (completely unedited, not with whitehole resaved) file you just extracted and load that iso again on your wii? maybe it will crash too and proof that just the way you try to patch the iso corrupts it.

Nice MM

But i hate the fact that it has to have a "game folder" opened, I cant edit any levels because of this.

I did test it without altering any files and it worked fine. I completely rebuilt the iso using wit, as well as tested it using just wiiscrubber to replace the individual files. Both times resulted in a freeze ONLY on the level that I attempted to alter. The only thing I am unable to test is riivolution because my discs are both damaged.

I have the same problem using riivolution, so the patching method is definitely not the problem.

Does Whitehole change anything other than the ObjInfo files?

EDIT: Just noticed that the edited ObjInfo files aren't aligned to 32 byte boundaries. That might very well be what's causing the problem.

Then what would you suggest? Opening ISOs wouldn't be compliant with Riivolution and would be tricky to code...

WHAT! I thought that on a system like the Wii, with a neat game engine such as SMG's, that wouldn't be a problem! Come on, that kind of silly restrictions is from stone ages systems!

Anyway, noted. I'll try that out and hope it fixes the issue. I'll also look into data alignment overall. Thanks for the tip.

In the meantime, you can always try padding the files by hand and see if that works...

Edit- I also noticed another isse in the RARC file packer function. It doesn't update the 'file length' in the file header. Fuck fuck fuck I'm stupid. (and why does that shit still work on Dolphin! fuck you Dolphin :/ )

Well if you happen to get that fixed I'll be one of the first to test it and let you know how it works out MM.

object adding/deleting is a little buggy

Hello,
I'm Ganjagrinda from rvlution.net. First of all I'd like to thank Mega-Mario and everybody else involved in making this wonderful SMG 1/2 editor. I was surprised when I first saw the program. Imo it is very nicely designed and intuitive, already at this early stage. :)

Yesterday, I talked to Dirbaio on IRC about some issues I'm having. It turned out he had the same problems. SuperStarLight above also seems to have come across the same bug.

I'm using RC .9 and the issues are:
- Can't select anything on the right side (rendered level view). Selecting an object from the objects view works and highlights the corresponding object on the right side.
- Deleting works, but adding an object doesn't.

That's it for now :)

How descriptive.

Anyway Dirbaio came up with a fix for picking issues, I hope it'll work :)

Okay, there is a very weird error that is bugging me, I used whitehole a few times and it was awesome, but now whenever I load a level and click a button it shuts down whitehole and spawns a "hs error pid" blahblahblah file.

That's weird. Every time I've used Whitehole, it always worked fine. Eventually it would throw exceptions because of some code I'd goof up, but JVM crashes like what you're experiencing would never happen, unless I screwed up OpenGL badly.

Check your JVM install and check your video driver, I'd say. And also try to disable shaders. From what I've seen, JVM crashes only occur when trying to do something OpenGL doesn't like.

Then post the contents of the "hs error pid blahblahblah file", man! It contains useful info to see what went wrong. ALWAYS give as much info as you can when reporting errors. I hate it when people go "I get an error, it doesn't work"...

(But yeah, a JVM crash like that could be caused by stuff other than Whitehole)

A JVM crash sounds like an OpenGL-related problem to me. But as Dirbaio said, if you don't give us details, there's no way we'll ever know.

I'm still experiencing a crash when trying to load an edited level on a wii using 1.0. Can anyone else get it to work on an actual wii?

Arisotura

MrRean has tested it and it worked. One or two other people tested it too I think.

Try to go from fresh files, and make sure you're doing the Riivolution config right. And if editing SMG2, perhaps a crash can be caused by adding objects whose files aren't included in the galaxy's UseResource file?

Do you have to use riivolution?

Arisotura
Posted on 10-02-12 03:33 PM Link | #944
Yes. Or otherwise you can use Wiiscrubber to reinsert the files into an ISO, but loading ISOs on your Wii isn't widely supported by the homebrew scene because it's often associated to piracy.
