Dumb pop-up ads while i try to... Ugh. Download roms (of games i have of course). I found a redirect saying "you are about to shoow nude pics", and those morons don't know who is reading that. No rom-hosting sites are good -.-

Also, dumb ads popping out on my sister's tablet

So there are those ads on bus stops etc, from Engie (power provider), for example:

At the same price* as regular power, not choosing green power is like saying:

"Hole in the ozone layer? Just put a cork!"

I saw a couple other ones, mentioning global warming or biodiversity.

Basically, this is saying that green power is the same price as regular power, and there's no reason not to switch.

So, quick question: why not just switch everyone to it? Why continue selling non-green power?

(answer: renewable power sources can't sustain a modern, consumerist country unless they're deployed in huge proportions, making them not so green for various reasons. France as it is right now is still very dependent on its nuclear power plants. this ad campaign is greenwashing at best.)

(it's also worth noting that public space advertising consumes energy and causes pollution)

Green power isn't the same price as regular power, though???

Electric vehicles are more expensive for a reason and while solar panels are getting their prices reduced it's still a really costly measure to make.

Which is why there's that *, pointing to small text describing conditions and shit.

Anyway, the worst part in this ad campaign is that problems like global warming are too serious to be used as commercial excuses. Advertisers turn any damn thing into a commercial excuse and that's disgusting.

Sorry for the bump, but this is an ad that I find absolutely wild and I discovered it right here on kuribo64. You may be saying to yourself "but kuribo64 doesnt have ads?" and you would be right, it doesnt. But it seems that comcast is prefectly fine with injecting pop up ads into any website you go to.

This is a blatent disrespect for their customers privacy and if there were any other good option to switch to, this is where id definatley do so. It seems they are doing it to a lot of people, enough to have quite a few articles written about it like one from gizmodo and this one from pcworld. This, I suppose, is another good thing that for https, that might make it start to gain more traction as without it things like this are possible.

if ISPs start doing that shit... well, it's a good call for HTTPS indeed. unless they're also able to MitM it -- there's software that can do it, for example antivirus software.

regardless, a good thing would be leaving them for another ISP if possible. such a recklessly capitalist ISP doesn't deserve your money. the popup shown there isn't outright capitalist, but they're visibly trying to normalize the practice of ISPs injecting shit into your pages. won't be long before they start injecting actual ads.

be sure to check your browser extensions/plugins/etc though. maybe it's some crapware extension pretending.

I use very few borwser extensions and the ones I do are all open source other than stylish (the user style extension for those who dont know about it) so I dont think its an extension thing.

But yeah, its a pretty shitty thing to do, and they don't do this to all their users to be clear, they only do it to users who dont have Comcast(tm) certified hardware aka their own awful modems and routers. Its trying to trap epople in a shitty comcast ecosystem like microsoft is starting to do with their newer laptops, its one of the reasons I started using linux as my daily driver instead of windows and now ISPs are starting to do it too.

Get a third-party modem/router if possible.

I wonder if there's any special code in Comcast's modem/router. They might have a big nice backdoor, intentional or not.

in USA, you never know

you'll definitely need a bullet-proof steak if vegan extremists decide to start using guns

anyway, bump, but:

you don't need to understand French to lose your brain cells watching that commercial

there are a few different variations of it, what changes is how they go out of their way to spill their washing powder/crap (even an idiot wearing boxing gloves would spill far less product), the rest is similar. first part is about how washing clothes the regular way is absurdly difficult, then they introduce their magical product and suddenly it's so easy that they're all partying like crazy.

also, all the ads for tampons and similar shit. they're all jumping on the "change the rules of the game" bandwagon.

and they're part of those ads that have """"average consumers"""" get interviewed and give their opinion on the product. with big quotes because it's fake (or I hope it is; if they ever start asking me about some dumb product while I'm in the streets, they can go fuck themselves).

I really enjoy medicine commercials where they assume that everybody watching the commercial is currently suffering from the same condition and command them all to "ASK YOUR DOCTOR" about their stupidly named medicine like "Prevagen" or "Zantac" or something. And then all they actually show in the commercial is generic footage of some guy walking around and going to his son's baseball game because what else can you show in a medicine commercial?

Also, about that French laundry ad: WTF? Why did they shut the laundry machine with their butt?

Perfume ads take it to a whole new level.
Every time I see an ad that doesn't make any sense, I automatically assume it's a perfume ad.

Why would they even need to inject ads if most websites already have them anyway? That's my question.

It's pretty simple. That's how companies work; if there's something you can do to make more money, do it. This kind of crap is why I use a VPN.

idk if it's relevant, but there is an important reason to have adblock and I think viruses can be embedded in ads (because ad companies allow this to happen somehow) and without adblock, you might get those viruses.

I think this is the phenomenom
