[sigh]. I haven't been in these waters since almost two years ago. I think it's time to finish what I started.

So after a LONG time in choppy waters I finally landed on the shores of Wuhu Isle once more!

I'm currently remaking the entire model with vertex coloring (and hopefully some alpha and/or scrolling textures) to add some good realism-ish vibes to the level. This is an image of the inside of Maka Wuhu, currently the only fully complete part of the level model. All of the coloring is homemade, no baking shadows or taking the easy way out like a chump. Click on the thumbnail for a larger image.

There will be two (maybe three) renditions of the island's model: one for daytime, one for nighttime, and perhaps one for dusk. Actually, if it's possible, maybe I could do a real-time day/night cycle. Hmm...

Let me know if you all approve. More will be on the way in couple of days.

This is amazing!

And if you can make a Daytime-Nightime cycle, then you will be the first known person to ASM hack SMG2 with something that was released!

(NOTE: the Red star and Ice flower Don't count)

Not, really.

Yes, actually.

When you get to the windmills, DON'T MODEL THE ACTUAL SPINNING PART!

Instead, make the spinning part seperatly and then import it into the game. Then, individually place the windmills on their stands.

Doing it this way will allow the windmills to actually spin!

Nice work. Good luck finishing it.

Also, if you can get scrolling textures working on your model, could you post a tutorial or show a way how to do so? That's something I've always been trying to figure out, since I know they revolve around btk files, but I've no idea how to incorporate them with a custom model.

A sneak peak at what's in store.

Just completed The Candle Lighthouse! A scenic landscape of said lighthouse and Wedge Island in the background. Skybox coming soon. :P

Also, after some major deliberation, I have chosen to have all the stars on one large mission so you can get them in any order and to have an expansive feel for the level.

Also the sea is in the works. Since BMDCubed can use transparent textures correctly, I'm going to rip the proper sea textures from Wii Sports Resort and make it look more realistic. The textures currently being used are those textures without the alpha channel; that channel has the color for the texture, so without it I had to apply color myself.

I was thinking using a VERY slow scrolling texture on the skybox so that the transitions between times of day would be smoother, as well as using timer switches to change the lighting and objects.

Great idea, I just wonder how you would do the lighting change. Will you use custom LightData or the ones already in the game?

You could also use a LightCtrlArea that moves on a circle-shaped path around the lighthouse. The lighting source is the center of the LightCtrlArea.

I'm going to try. Haven't gotten the chance to test it yet. Good chance that it'll work though.

If you read up on some game knowledge you'll know that Pikmin 2 and Super Mario Galaxy use derivatives of the same engine. In the video I posted with the BMDCubed thread, it worked for that game so there should be little reason for it to not work with the Galaxy games.

Wow, this is excellent. It would be great to see BMDCubed working with SMG. I have waited so long for the ability to use transparent textures. Keep up the good work!

This is so cool. I really hope this gets finished. I loved Wii Sports Resort (especially the island flyover thingy) so I'm looking forward to playing this.
