Just a little review of some browsers.

Stock browser

+ rearranges paragraphs to fit in the screen. doesn't work with single lines tho.
+ is stable-ish
- no way to properly exit it. does it remain running in the background forever?

Firefox for Android

+ can be exited properly (although it requires enabling a not-really-relevant option)
+ allows installing adblockers
+ option to masquerade as desktop Firefox. nice for sites with forced mobile versions that are a total trainwreck or an endless ad fest.
- is a glitchfest. half the time, decides it just won't load pages. and other fun crap. doesn't work right? restart it. it's a lottery.
- doesn't seem to remember URLs/search queries.

Any experience with other mobile browsers? Post.

Figured I'd throw this in:

Google Chrome for Android

+ is fairly reliable, surprisingly enough
+ supports some stuff that other mobile browsers don't seem to (For example, Chatango actually works, so whatever powers that works on it)
+ tries really hard to be as touch-friendly as possible
- tries WAAAY too hard to be as touch-friendly as possible, becoming rather awkward by randomly magnifying stuff, presumably following some gesture I don't know of
- managing incognito tabs is kinda weird and awkward (and by that I mean really awkward and confusing)
- probably spies on you (but doesn't the mobile OS already take care of that?)

Opera Mini (not Opera Mobile).

+ It has integrated adblocking. (can be disabled but doesn't support whitelists)
- Although it also will try to display some "recommended" sites (ads) when searching. Tsk.
* Has a QR code reader. Why? 'cause.
+ Has integrated data savings that can also double as a mini-VPN. You can only disable it if you're using Wi-Fi. You can change it from "High" to "Extreme", the first will display pages close to the other browsers and the latter will really reduce page size. Has a few other settings.
- Both are prone to hiccups on some pages. Not often, but it happens. Extreme has a higher risk of breaking stuff, even though it still supports very basic JavaScript.
+ Has night mode if the screen is too bright.
* Decent history and downloads manager.
+ Has settings so you can adjust the way it displays pages (text options, single column view).
* You can change the browser's color! Yay.
+ You can change the layout of the browser's UI a bit.
- Displays news most people don't care about. Can be disabled.
+ Can save pages offline for later viewing along with standard bookmarks.
- Don't use too many tabs (5+) or load many resource-extensive websites at once. It can crash the poor browser. On a better scenario, it unloads some pages, which is still annoying but better than crashing.

Overall, it has its problems, but I'd recommend it. There's a version for almost every single phone in existence, including S40.

The stock browser can unload tabs in a similar fashion.

I find it amazing that despite smartphones having nearly the same specs as computers, they still have trouble with that. Okay, battery time comes into play, but using more memory doesn't drain the battery faster.

Opera Mini is pretty nice because it is the only browser that makes browsing on my 2011 spare phone somewhat bearable.

Praise the lord for Opera Mini.

Oh, I remember using it on my old phone. Although it was because I had installed CyanogenMod. It was one of those phones that have a slide-in keyboard. I had gotten it to work right under Android itself, but the stock browser mishandled the Shift key and such (you had to keep them pressed, like on a computer keyboard, instead of the normal 'pressing it once activates it for the next keystroke'). Opera Mini however did handle the keyboard right.

One problem I had with Firefox for Android was not only it crashed a lot, but text on the screen is very hard to read when it's zoomed in when the text lies beyond the width of the screen. Very annoying to read. Since I use mobile browsers to read, it's a huge pain in the ass.

I've came to the point I've got 4 different phones:
An iPhone with iOS, a Nexus with Android, another Nexus with Plasma Mobile (aka, KDE on a phone), and a Lumia with Windows 10.

iPhone and Android allow 3rd party browsers, Windows 10 doesn't, and Plasma Mobile ships with a desktop version of Firefox, but I didn't find a way to get Internet to work on that thing yet, so I don't know if I can install a different browser or not.

Despite that, I always tend to use Safari on the iPhone, and Chrome on the Android phone, it just feels more properly integrated somehow.
I tried Chrome on the iPhone, and Firefox on both, but neither of those feel like they should feel...

Thats... a lot of phones.

Anyway:
New Nintendo 3DS browser

+Has favorites and bookmarks
+Can delete history (but why would you?)
+Cookies deletion (but why would you?)
+Seemingly separate video player.
+The C-stick can change the video speed
+option for mobile sites OR Desktop sites
+Can be used over other applications. So you don't have to quit your game.
-Can be slow
-Can't be used anywhere because 3DS has no data
-Some sites don't have mobile
-Sites that are too large can't be loaded
-Can be used over other applications. Which can drain battery faster.

The Wii U browser is okay (if you use the Gamepad), but the 3DS browser is crap.

Ghostery:

+ Lets me pick and choose which trackers I want following me. And clean cache and cookies.

+ Decent Safari clone.

- Tabs could use some more work.

- And I can't drag where I wanna type either.

- Randomly closes on me and forgets where I was. Unless it's related to trackers putting stress on the Browser. Sorry if I sound like an idiot. :P

Is there a way for me to update the Android browser without having to create an account on Google Play?

If not, you can complain about it or what.

You can try and find API files, or otherwise, download API files from the desktop version of the Play Store yourself (there are some Chrome/Chromium extensions to assist you with that), and manually install them on your phone.

However, I want to recommend you to do the second option, the first one is rather unsafe, and can also install malware, if you're not cautious.
