Hello, everybody. Today, I present to you my SM64 ROM hack, Super Mario: Power Star Expedition. Information and screenshots can be found below.

Features

Progress
Main courses: 0/10 <- Three models are pretty close to completion, though.

Potential story for the game
Once again, Peach has been kidnapped. But this time she wasn't kidnapped by Bowser, or that's what Mario believes. Mario thinks that he killed Bowser in Super Mario 64. The truth is that he did, but Bowser came back as a ghost and you have to fight him in the second Bowser level (he is just Big Boo). Upon defeating him in the second castle, Mario is rewared with a key and he believes that he will never see Bowser again. However, in the last Bowser level, Mario meets up with Bowser again--but this time he is in his regular form due to Kamek's magic.

(This story will probably be scrapped because it's really bad.)

Final notes and help

I started making this hack on September 17th, 2016. As you can clearly tell I haven't made much progress in that time span. This is because of school and sometimes--but not very often--my lack of motivation. I really hope that I can complete this hack and make it as fun to play as possible. Also, I need help with music. I can obtain some of the .m64 files from SMWCentral, but not all of them. So if anybody is interested in helping, please send a PM to me with examples of your work. And before anyone asks, that is the only thing I need help with. Anyway, I think I covered everything. Thank you for reading. :)

Oh, and by the way, don't forget to give me some feedback. If a lot of people don't like my 3D modeling, then I might restart since this hack is in its early stages.

I am currently working on Heavy Metal Factory for some reason. Here are some screenshots:

Please give me some feedback. I would really appreciate it. :)

Also, I need to reposition a few textures and find a good pipe texture. If you know where I can find a good pipe texture, then please direct me to that website. Thank you. :)

Your models look very good! Couldn't you just use the vanilla pipe textures for the pipes?

Thank you! :)

The vanilla pipe textures don't look too good on the pipes that I made, though. I'm specifically trying to find the pipe texture shown at 00:24 in this video. Do you think you can help?

Download the hack and extract the texture with toad's tool 64 (and ask the creator, obviously).
EDIT: You should also add those to the first post.

Oh, I didn't know that one can extract textures from a SM64 ROM hack using Toad's Tool 64. I haven't used it much so far, so that's the reason why.

Also, I suppose I could have asked BroDute where he got that texture from, but he usually doesn't reply to YouTube comments so I thought it would be pointless.

And I'll add those pictures to the first post in a minute. :)

This looks really awesome so far. Can't wait to play it when it's finished

Thank you, Toms.

Also, because it has almost been a month since my last update, I decided that I should post some new screenshots. So, here are some screenshots of Galactic Spaceway:

Notes regarding the level:
- Walls will be added to the outskirts of the level.
- I am still looking for textures for the UFO, the Spaceship and the dome.
- The giant rock in the last screenshot will be fixed.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)

It looks okay, tough I think it will look a lot better when the walls will be added. Also, don't forget to add these to the first post ;)

During the past few months, I have got quite a bit done for this hack. I scrapped the old Red Leaf Forest and almost finished modeling the new version; I almost finished modeling the final Bowser level; I finished modeling the first Bowser course but still need to apply and reposition a few textures; I modeled some of the first hub world; I fixed and added a few things in Hot, Hot Desert and Goomba Grasslands; I almost finished modeling Scorching Volcano; and I started modeling Foggy, Flooded Cave.

If you want to see a few screenshots, please request which ones you want to see and I will post them.

Thank you, normalstar. :)

Here is a picture of a course that I had just started recently:

Spooky Ghost Mansion

Also, here are a couple of screenshots of a course that is very close to completion:

Scorching Volcano (name will change) Pic 1
Scorching Volcano Pic 2

For this course, all I need to do is fix a few minor things, align a few more textures, and finish the volcano part.

Once again, feedback will be greatly appreciated. :)

Looks good! Could you some pictures of it in-game? Also, all the Galactic Spaceway pictures don't work anymore.

Well, I figured that I should post an update for the very few people who care about this project, so here it goes.

So, this project is just over a year old now. That's actually really hard to believe. Unfortunately, in that time, I got very little done. At the moment, I currently have 3 incomplete main level models, 6 incomplete side course models, and some other minor things done. That's it. If you look at the main post, though, you will notice that there are screenshots from more than 3 of the main courses. Well, that's because most of those models have now been scrapped. Specifically, I scrapped courses 1, 4, 8, and 9. So the only old courses that remain are 3, 6, and 10. By the way, I don't have a release date for this. I'm hoping to finish this by next year, but that probably won't happen.

Anyway, I'll just leave this screenshot of the secret sky level here (this is the level I'm currently working on):

[thumbnail]

This level will contain three parts, one being a sky area, which is what you see above, another will be a dark cave area, and the last one will a sky/rainforest area. Also, I will finish the UV mapping later. Finally, the only thing not made by me in that screenshot is the cloud next to the starting platform; it's actually from Super Mario Galaxy.

So, uh, yeah, that's everything I wanted to say. If you want, you can post feedback. I would really appreciate it.

Looks awesome as always, why did you scrap half the courses tho?

I scrapped all of those courses because they are below my standards now; they just aren't good enough anymore. I also just scrapped the final Bowser course I have been working on for a while, because I decided that I want the level to mostly take place inside of Bowser's Castle.

And thank you for your feedback again. :)

Here's a screenshot of a subarea in Goomba Skylands (yes, I changed the name):

[thumbnail]

I know it's not a lot to look at right now, but I am aiming to post screenshots more frequently, so you should expect screenshots like this that don't reveal a lot. It's actually a good way to show that I'm still working on the hack without spoiling too much. Oh, and that platform took forever to model, by the way.

I made some more progress in course 10. Here are some screenshots:

[thumbnail] [thumbnail]
[thumbnail] [thumbnail]

I know the course isn't too different, but I kind of just wanted to post some screenshots, so there they are. Also, this level already has over 9,000 polygons in it somehow, and I'm not even halfway done. That kind of worries me, as I believe SM64 can only support up to 20,000 polygons. But, I can probably delete quite a few polygons for the collision map, so hopefully there won't be an issue.

Well, I have some bad news: I'm probably going to cancel this project.

It really seems like I am getting absolutely nowhere with it, and I feel like if I were to finish it, it would take a couple more years, and I don't think I'm willing to spend that much time on this project. I mean, I started working on this over a year ago, and all I have are a few incomplete models. I am not saying that I don't enjoy making models for this hack, because I actually do, but I just can't seem to get a single one complete, and I have lost a lot of motivation because of that.

Also, I just started to work on my New Super Mario Bros Wii hack again, and I am really enjoying that, and it is easier to get things done.

Finally, just to be clear, I don't know for sure if this hack will die, but it is more than likely to happen. So, if it does happen, I may polish some or all of the incomplete models a bit and release a patch (if enough people want me to do so). Anyway, I think I covered everything; thank you for reading. I hope you understand.
