So for a while now I have been using the Unity3D game engine as my main way to develop games. However on the side I have been learning C++, which is a language that while it can be inconvinient at times, it is very powerful. I have been thinking that I could use C++ with Unreal engine to make games. However a much more interesting idea has popped into my head. Making games from scratch with C++. For a while now I have seen people make games from scratch using OpenGL or SFML. I want to do the same with C++. The problem is that I don't even know were to start with this. With Unity, there are many tutorials out there to get newbies started with Unity3D. The same cannot be said with OpenGL. SFML does have some good tutorials and is easier to learn but it is much more limited than OpenGL since I only see people making 2D games with it. So the point is, How can I get started with learning how to make games from scratch with C++? |

You could use SDL, it takes care of stuff like creating windows and handling input for you. It'll also let you use OpenGL if you want. |

Learn programming by doing so.
It's really the only real way! |

Not literally that, but you're still allowed to take sample code, take them into pieces, and see what they do.
That's how I learnt PHP, as well as C, C++, C#, Java (ew...), etc. I also learnt a lot by Google-ing up every time I've got stuck. |

Posted by Yami Oh, I see. That may be good strategy for learning how to use OpenGL with SDL since there are not many tutorials out there. Thank you for that, I will try it. |
