It seems obvious, yet virtually every Democrat would treat what I said as heresy. That's the main problem with the party. They may claim to stand for progressive ideals, but if they can't call out their own party for failing to live up to them (as happened all throughout the Obama Administration, for instance), that doesn't mean anything.

Look what happened to Bernie. He was a critic of the establishment and represented an actual honest man in politics. DNC all circle-jerked with each other and we the people now have to pay the price. The price being Donald Trump.

That's why I love the people who think they can change the system from inside. Legalism is cute, but they haven't caught on to the fact that the system is a whole game of corruption, greed and treachery.

Trump orders the wall and starts putting Muslim/etc bans in place

Demagogy show? Actual implementation of shit policies?

The whole bit of making Mexico pay the wall is scary. Sounds like bullshit, but then again, this is Trump. If he tries doing that, there's no doubt it'd put him in war against Mexico.

At the very least, it's good to see that Trump actually keeps his promises.
Any actual politician makes promises just to win elections, and then immediately discards them once elected.

Well, he didn't keep his promise to drain the swamp, given all the corporatists and generals intended for his cabinet.

sooo... democracyness map

USA went from 'democracy' to 'flawed democracy'.

are you fucking kidding me?? this is turning into a fucking totalitarian regime.

as a side note, seems that the most democratic country is Norway, and the least democratic is (surprise) North Korea.

How is the US turning into a totalitarian regime? (Just curious.)

How is censoring scientifics democratic? (Just curious.)

Or arresting journalists covering inauguration protests and potentially throwing them in jail for 10 years. I could understand why protesters would face that, but journalists?

It was an honest question. I was just wondering why, that's all.

I don't know what you mean about censoring scientifics. And I didn't realise they were throwing journalists in prison, that sounds awful.

Well, now you know :P

Trump's been censoring scientific posts that talked about global warming. From there sparked 'alt' Twitter accounts like AltNASA etc.

Oh, my bad. I didn't talk about it in this thread. Sorry about that :P

Oh, censoring posts on global warming? That's a little far. I'll have a look to see what he's done because censorship of any kind, when it comes to science, is not a good thing.

Pretty much. I don't care if he thinks global warming is a Chinese hoax or whatever, but this shows that he's willing to use force to silence opposition.

Also, looks like USA taxpayers will be paying for the $15 billion Mexico wall. Of course, Mexico refuses to pay for it.

The article goes on to say that it isn't necessarily Trump driving the score down, but continued mistrust of government and government elites.

yeah. let's say Trump isn't going to help, though :P

also, the global warming censorship apparently wasn't the act of Trump. but regardless, those companies purposely censored themselves to not go against Trump, and that's a bad sign.

That map is quite funny, actually.
Ever since the early 2000s, the US, as well as the EU, kept losing their democratic values every month, which is totally not reflected on this map.

Then there's Brazil, where a democratically elected leader got overthrown by some banker, that has never been available in any elections in the first place.
And yet, it's more 'democratic' than last year...

Of course, Russia lost more democratic values, because unlike the EU, Russia did listen to the will of the people in Crimea; they voted to join Russia, and got what they wanted.
Meanwhile:
1. Catalonia voted to separate themselves from Spain → Didn't happen.
2. Greece voted against getting into even bigger debts → They got into even bigger debts.
3. Netherlands voted against Ukraine joining the EU → Ukraine is still joining.
Need more?

How about Turkey?
Their sultan (Erdogan) makes Turkey more and more anti-democratic, and it's the most obvious out of all I mentioned so far.
And yet, it's a "hybrid regime".

Finally, there's Syria, believed by the West that Assad is 'killing his own people', which is laughable, since he didn't do so in the first place, and now needs to fight all the terrorists away, with some help of Russia and Iran, but other than these 2, nobody else really helps...

tl;dr: A very inaccurate map.

Vice-president became president, simple.

He's not much better than most other politicians but the scandal regarding the Worker's Party was enough to throw a lot of skepticism to the democratically elected leader, plus we all expected things to get much much worse during the next few years but currently it's not all that bad. It could be better, but not bad.

more threats to the free internet

basically, Youtube had deleted a channel that hosted climate science videos, although it's back now.

but regardless, we are in great need of a truly free internet that isn't under the control of megacorporations or governments.

It could just mean Youtube is a broken little vomit pile and now people abuse its vomit algorithms to try to see how far it bends to remove evidence they don't like. Let's see what they'll do in Facebook, if they haven't done so already.

well, Youtube has a history of giving in to any takedown request to cover their asses, so this isn't entirely new or surprising.

it's just way bad for the free internet, seeing that a) Google is based in Trumpistan and b) things are generally going down the shitter.
