I hope this correct forum for this question. So I am currently learning C++ and I want to code at school. Is it possible for me to install an IDE on my flashdrive so that I can code and run my programs at my school? just curious. Thanks in advance. |

if you're talking about Visual Studio, forget about it, that IDE is a behemoth that relies on system DLLs, registry keys and whatnot.
that's an example, but generally IDEs aren't exactly lightweight programs. ____________________ NSMBHD - Kafuka - Jul melonDS the most fruity DS emulator there is zafkflzdasd |

Posted by StapleButter What about Turbo C++? It looks old so I would assume that it is not that heavy of an IDE |

Some can, and some can't.
If you're only learning C++, then for the most of the time, you can put your Apps on an USB drive, and run it on any PC with the same OS. However, on Windows, your App could rely on registry keys or system DLL files, and on Linux, your App could rely on dependencies or Dynamic Libraries. In these cases, running your App might cause an error. For example, you can run RomFS-Builder (Windows App) and MakeROMFS (Linux App) perfectly fine from a USB drive. However, good luck running something like VirtualBox (Windows, Mac, and Linux) off a USB drive. Most Mac Apps can run off the ".app" files perfectly fine, but that's because everything required is included with the executable, mostly. I hope this helps. |
