My sister once got her phone robbed.

Not even in a super dangerous place.

What place? Did she have an expensive iPhone? Anyways, there's so many people at the park that you literally feel squished when you walk around, if the crowd notices that someone is stealing phones. But I do agree that it would make it easier to get away with, but there's police everywhere too, so you can report it to them. Anyways the only exposure I have to this is my dad getting his iPhone stolen at midnight in some dark parking garage at the Chicago airport. That's dangerous. A park with plenty of lights, police, and generally, people, is not dangerous at least imo.

Also, more on topic, it's weird how road enforcement police like give tickets to moms for driving children to school at like 1 mph over the speed limit. They just wait by downhills to give them a ticket. It's so retarded honestly, they should give tickets to the people that speed over 30 mph over the speed limit, but they're just too lazy, tbh.

You're exaggerating if he was going 200KPH. You wouldn't be here if that was the case. if it caused no injuries, I'd say 72KPH.

Yeah. Of course I'm exaggerating.
IDK. It felt pretty fast. We heard tires screech for an instant and then the car kinda... slammed forward.

Some goes for cars too. People who look at their phones while driving usually drive super slow and block the lane, which is quite annoying.

Friendly Driver
The driver that lets everybody merge, stays where he/she should be, obeys the traffic signals, isn't flying past you at a million miles an hour...

God, I wish more drivers were like this. ;_;

Also, out of curiosity : does every driver here obey every single traffic law? I can say I obey most but not all. An example is me going 85 MPH on a 75 MPH highway. :P I usually don't go 10 MPH over the speed limit and if I do, it's either me racing someone or passing someone at a highway.

I've never been pulled over by an officer (somehow managed, BTW), and I haven't crashed yet. I've had many near misses, though. There was this one time where I nearly had a collision in downtown Houston. I was driving 5 MPH below the limit since I had a trailer cargo cart attached to my truck and knew it took me more time to slow down and speed up. I was going through the rightmost lane in a very populated road and traffic was everywhere. Suddenly, the light turned red and people started slowing down very quickly. Me, having cargo, couldn't stop very quickly and realized I would crash into the car in front of me. I don't know how but I made the decision to sharply turn right into an empty parking lot and using the unevenly distributed weight to stop the truck before I crashed into another car in the parking lot. That was pure luck right there. I'm pretty sure I used up all my luck there and will crash next time this happens.

speaking of speed limits:

the only cases you see people respect them in France are a) when there are cops and b) when there are speed radars.

aside from that, if you respect speed limits closely, you see 50 cars stacking up behind you implicitly telling you to go faster, or overtaking you as soon as possible.

on freeways/highways, they just overtake you. if you want to be 'slow', you stay in the slow lane. except for the occasional idiot who decides to be slow in the fast lane.

absolute best case: truck blocking the fast lane by trying to overtake another truck with a 2km/h speed difference. either stay patient or speed in the emergency stop lane and hope for the best.

Speaking of trucks, anybody hate it when you're driving and for some reason there is pretty much ONLY trucks? God that totally nerves me.

iirc there's like a 10-15 mph leeway when it comes to speed limits, might be wrong tho

Not here at least. Police pull over moms going downhills driving kids to school going over 1 mph. Maybe that leeway applies to highways, also police are too lazy to pull over shit on highways.

Trucks are probably better drivers than 80% of cars on the road anyhow.

In places like Washington D.C, you can go 95MPH in a 55MPH zone. It's the beltway around our nation's capital and they really don't care about speed limits there.

Yep, definitely agree. But they drive quite slow and if you are behind them and can't pass them (like on a one lane road that doesn't allow passing), you would have a quite frustrating time.

in France, speed radars have a 5km/h leeway or so.

People don't care about the speed limit here. At all. It's terrifying.

I've heard some countries allow cars (mostly supercars) to go as fast as they want in a freeway. I can't really believe this since I haven't seen any proof but I don't see why it's not possible.

I've seen some speed limit stats and there are indeed countries that have no speed limit on freeways/highways. Scary.

Germany. I've seen videos and it looks TERRIFYING.

fun fact: "autobahn" literally means "car road". How's that for uncreative naming?

:P

meanwhile, France is going the other way -- gradually reducing speed limits in the name of security. we'll end up driving around at 30km/h.

during certain weather conditions, we also get those messages: "SLOW DOWN -- POLLUTION PEAK".

which is bullshit. driving slower doesn't always pollute less, it depends on the engine and the gearbox. most gearboxes are adapted to common speed limits (30, 50, 70, 90, 110, 130), so driving inbetween is less optimal. also, travelling faster through one area means you spend less time polluting that area.

a good move against pollution peaks would be to STOP FAVORIZING DIESEL but asgadfaff.

last sentence: yeah, bait and switch. :P They don't want you to realize that diesel in of itself is a problem and won't always be available in the future. Of course, removing diesel-based gas engines immediately is far from realistic, but still.
