The effects seem to depend on the place.

I have always lived in France, somewhat near Paris.

I remember how it was when I was a kid. We had sunny, hot Summers. We battled outside with water rifles and such. We used air conditioners (with ghetto pipe-through-window setups) to keep the house cool. We watched Fort Boyard on Saturdays and midnight baths in the swimming pool followed it. It was good.

Winters were nice too, with their share of snow.

Seasons became more... dull. Less marked. Weather is always cloudy and shitty, barely any temperature difference between Winter and Summer. With the exception of a few days per year. The air conditioners almost never serve. We have been running heating in June atleast one year. I almost never bathed in the swimming pool anymore because it was always too cold outside.

Transitions between Winter and Summer are the most fucked up. You not seldom get a few warm/hot days followed by more Winter, which must be confusing the hell out of the local wildlife.

Summer weather is a cycle. A couple hot days, followed by a thunderstorm and weeks of depressing crap.

Autumn is its usual depressing self. Winter is cold but not nearly enough for snow. When was the last Winter we got some decent snow? 2012/2013. Following Winters had little to no snow.

A history teacher I had, said that back in the old days, there was much more snow.

Global warming is a thing.

It can be difficult to admit that our species has built worldwide technology that is causing the demise of our planet. But you have no choice but to admit it and help prevent really bad shit.

And don't forget that it isn't just the visible things. Using temperature sensors and complex calculations scientists work out that the global temperature is rising.

It's been happening more and more frequently the past few years. Police are becoming less and less well-liked here, that is for certain.

At least, less well-liked outside of my tiny conservative-ass town >_>

Police need to do useful shit. I posted in a different thread too, about how police pull over moms driving kids.to school that are driving at like 1 mph faster downhill than the speed limit instead of pulling over actual speeders on the freeway that cause accidents. Just that our society has gotten super lazy, too.

Cops need to be trained to shoot only if they are getting shot, but in a lot of those incidents, it seems like their levels of feeling threatened are usually high. It's worse that the U.S. is gun-obsessed, so it just elevates the cops' threat levels.

On another U.S.A.-related topic, government sponsored Christian prayer might be a thing now. This is... awful. And really pisses me off.

3 hours from now, New Orleans people will try to tear down monuments linked to white supremacy.

I predict big fights. Would be too easy if they had carte blanche to do that.

this country is crumbling piece by piece, and I certainly don't want to be in here when the rest of it collapses on everyone inside. I can't wait to get out

Whatever happens in the US will affect the entire world too. Right now, there are two possible outcomes: the people take back their country, or the elites finally oppress them for good. If the former happens, the people can forge a country that works for the benefit of its citizens, and avoids undue interference abroad. If the latter happens, the world will continue to be devastated by our wars, we'll be dead or enslaved to corporations, and climate change will wipe us all out by the end of the century.

It's much more productive to stay and fight against oligarchy. Even if it seems hopeless, the only other option is losing the world altogether.

It's not hopeless!

Actually, part of me wishes I were in USA, so I could take part into the protests instead of staying here in a debilitating job search :P

Because, uh, what happens when all the protests converge and unite against one enemy? Revolution.

It's pretty much what's happening in USA currently. Prison riots, protests against police shootings, ecological protests like NoDAPL... The enemy is the same. The oligarchy of the rich. The capitalist system, which only benefits the rich elite at the expense of everyone and everything else.

Overthrowing the system will deal a big blow to capitalism in general.

In support of world history, what most likely will happen is another bloody revolution, like all of the ones on the history textbook. This is what happens each time a group of small people take control over the world, or at least a good portion of it. But this time there's two fronts, climate change is also battling everybody. So why not everyone stop the petty arguments and unite against the problem with a far larger force than we humans can muster-then continue our little senseless arguments?

Sadly, too many powerful industries depend on continued fossil fuel use: the fossil fuel industry (obviously), the military-industrial complex (which has a codependent relationship with them), and the banks (which finance the former two groups). If our oligarchy acted rationally, we would treat climate change like the threat it is. But since their entire profits are tied up in fossil fuels, they fight any effort to stop their use, even if it ends up killing all of us. Short-term profits matter more than long-term survival.

Which is more reason to take those industries down.

A very good read.

Relatedly, dunno how the New Orleans monument thing went... no posts about it yet. I suspect it, well, just didn't happen.

Edit- cops were there to defend the monuments. Not surprising. It's what happens when you announce that kind of event publicly along with a precise date and time.

Holman Prison is, well, falling apart. Guards massively refuse to work.

Charlotte, NC is turning into a war zone.

There's shit happening in other countries too, including France -- a group of protesters defending a natural zone near Nantes where the government wants to build an airport and other shit.

I'm partly tempted to join them. It'd be more meaningful than sitting here in a debilitating job search.

We are coming apart.

For most of my life, I've been proud of my country.

Not anymore.

I've recently realized that there was never a reason to be proud of the US. For over a century, we've been an imperialist state controlled by the wealthy. Our legacy is conquest, genocide, racism, war profiteering, and environmental devastation.

Well, democracy is a good idea. Sadly it gets warped by capitalism, like everything else.

I think we'll have to rely on the anarchist moves to get out of this shit, in the lack of anything better.

Capitalism is an insidious enemy. It masquerades as a friend, by providing you daily comfort and a ton of things readily available. This is why a ton of people are fine with it.

As environmental issues appeared, the system responded to them, by
a) providing people means to do actions that supposedly help the environment (recycling -- whether it makes things better or worse, dunno, but not a bad idea), and
b) setting up propaganda and political shows to make people believe that governments are acting in the right way (defining limits for global warming that will never be enforced, the COP21...).

Thus, the people who worry about the environment will buy into the propaganda and stop worrying. And capitalism continues to be seen as people's friend.

But in reality, if we continue the way we're going, we're headed towards dystopia or death. Capitalism makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Capitalism ruins the Earth by depleting natural resources, destroying ecosystem to expand its infrastructures, and causing various forms of pollution.

The current world isn't controlled by governments, or rather, not directly. Big, rich corporations pretty much control the economy, thus controlling the governments which can be used to control the people and keep them in line.

So, unlike what a lot of people think, change doesn't boil down to 'vote for party X' or 'vote against party Y'. Political parties mean nothing under the control of the capitalist system. They don't get shit done in the right way -- they setup propaganda shows to calm down the people, while silently taking actual actions that go in the opposite direction. Democracy is powerless against the enemy that capitalism is.

Capitalism must die. It's as simple as this. It's the only way out.

Oh also, if anyone still believes that the DAPL is a good thing:

A nice big list of pipeline leaks and other accidents in USA since 2000.

Pipelines aren't reliable. We don't need no more pollution.
