Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; Windows Phone 8.1; Android 4.0; ARM; Trident/7.0; Touch; rv:11.0; IEMobile/11.0; NOKIA; Lumia 530 Dual SIM) like iPhone OS 7_0_3 Mac OS X AppleWebKit/537 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile Safari/537

This is the useragent used by the Nokia Lumia 530 browser.

It pretends to be Windows Phone 8.1 and Android 4.0 at the same time. It also pretends to be 'like iPhone' and iOS 7.0.3, OSX, Webkit, Gecko, Safari...

It basically pretends to be every browser and OS. Just add desktop Windows and you're good.

This is ridiculous. What was the point of useragents again? Identifying browsers.

They started as simple strings, like Mozilla/5.0 or Netscape/4.0.

Then some lazy coders started using those to adapt their programming, rather than trying to detect which features are available. Further browsers had to adapt their useragents to stay compatible with high-profile sites that did this.

A prime example today is Gmail. Oh, I don't know what your browser is, it must be a piece of shit! Enjoy the shitty basic view! And no you may not try having the regular view!

Obviously, as this went on, useragents became more and more complex, including other details like the OS, platform type... but also more crap to stay compatible with high-profile sites.

The results are the aforementioned useragent. Ridiculous.

How about we stop this madness and code properly for once?

You can still figure out the main user agent. :P The rest is in parentheses. I guess that is there for some reference or to list the similarities. Never quite took the time to look at mine either but I'd agree that they are getting excessively long.

Mozilla isn't even a browser anymore.

It's a long history of faking useragents to be compatible with high-profile sites that relied on those (instead of, you know, letting them update their code). At some point every browser pretended to be Mozilla.
