from what i've heard it's because converting all the signs and such would have cost billions the government didn't feel like spending

not like that's a good excuse anyway, considering what government money is being spent on nowadays

besides, it's not expensive at all to make the change anyway

don't forget about all the imperial-system measuring tools that have been produced and would go obsolete

a lot of software would have to be modified accordingly too

everyone would need to adapt to the new system, and so on

in some domains, accidentally using the wrong unit system could have terrible consequences

you have to replace literally every reference to fahrenheit, miles, feet, inches, cups, gallons, pints, ounces, and whatever else on every street sign and measuring cup and oven all over the nation, somehow i get the impression that it's going to be pretty expensive

unless you mean on a local level

Guys, if the U.S. have to go metric, wouldn't our traffic laws have to be altered?

I just read the DMV Driver's Handbook, and lot of its guidelines and rules measure its what's and what-nots in feet. Like, if you're turning right on a bicycle lane, you have to merge in it for 200 ft. If you make a left turn from the center lane, you're allowed 400 feet.

I'm going to experiment with cars this summer. I've been wanting to modify an old truck and with the saved up money, I can probably make that happen. I'm thinking of swapping the engine to a more powerful VORTEC V8 and the muffler to a Magnaflow turn down exhaust. I might lift it as well and install new tires.

Is all the ground just sand there?

It's not sand. I live in the outskirts of Houston, which is approximately 40 minutes to the coast of Texas.

The driveway is about 2.5 miles (Approx. 4 kilometers…) and almost all of it - except for the first 100 meters or so - is all gravel. I don't feel like wasting money on making the driveway all concrete even though it would look much nicer. :P Don't worry, the main road that connects to the highway is all concrete.
