My sister's computer was automatically "upgraded" to Windows 10 a few weeks ago. I'm not sure how I haven't gotten those repeated popups begging me to update, but I'm glad I've managed to avoid it somehow. I'm really getting tired of Microsoft and all the other software companies pulling stuff like this. I'm seriously considering switching operating systems at this point.

A few weeks? LESS THAN FOUR??

Quick, the free downgrade option only lasts 30 days! Take it while it lasts!

...unless she actually likes Windows 10, that is.

I wouldn't mind using Win 10 on a brand new laptop.

I don't want to 'upgrade' because I'm sure it will break my laptop.

Eh, Windows 10 honestly isn't as bad as the first Windows 8, which was absolutely terrible.

I wouldn't use something that is shoved down people's throats at every opportunity. It's akin to staying in East Germany during the Berlin Wall. This is probably far-fetched, but it's the same spirit.

Hey, at least if you already screwed up and got Windows 8 you can have a tiny bit better operating system, I guess.

Windows 7 is still superior

Personally, I'd take Windows 8 over 10 any day. Heck, I might even pick 8 over 7. (Not for the shell, though. I like the performance gain.)

Atleast one can kinda sorta be trusted (not to mention more easily modded to the point of being usable, but even without that option, 8...is more reliable from what I've seen. And it atleast knows where one UI ends and the next begins.)

and 7 has a completely consistent UI and doesn't feel like a weird mix of a PC and a smartphone

also, 'performance gain'

most of it is the 'fresh Windows install' effect, I guess.

Windows 8 on my old laptop was an absolute trainwreck performance wise. 7 was already not that fast...

Give it a few 3rd-party tools and 8 is the same but more flexible :3

Right, fresh install effect...on a Computer which has been running the same OS for 3 years. Makes sense.

Huh. Was that laptop running DWM using GPU or software rendering? If the latter, I can certaintly see why it'd struggle under 8.

Anywaves...can't say I've used 7 on my current machine, but I can say that Windows 7 is by far the slowest OS I've ever used in a Virtual Machine. Given identical VM configuration, RAM allocation, etc, Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs, Windows Longhorn builds 3683 - 4093, Windows Longhorn build 5048, Windows Vista build 5112 and 5219, Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 build 6801, Windows 8 builds 7850, 7989, 8102 (Developer preview), and Windows 8.1 update 1 RTM all outpace 7 by what feels like millenia! Heck, even Windows 10 does, albeit not by much. Maybe that's just my weird experience? .-.

Windows 10 isn't ultra-slow, though. :P I'm okay with Windows 10, but I still have hatred for Windows 8 giving us a large windows phone interface

heck, I like Vista. Too bad my only Vista computer crashes when visiting RHcafe... :P

It has 624 ram, so I doubt it's the OS's fault

I also think Windows XP receives too much love. Love that Vista should have. :P (it also was the introduction of god damned IE6)

A lot of people hate 8. Vista and 8 failed for the opposite reasons - one had a great shell on a garbage kernel, the other was a garbage shell on a great kernel. Only Vista recovered from its lauch issues, but by then it was too late :/

YES
THIS
SO MUCH OF THIS

...not sure where the assumption that it was a fresh install came from, but regardless, I'm the one who should be apologizing for being unclear ._.

...fair point...then again, I'd use them either way, so idk, but it probably doesn't matter if you don't like skinning .____.
(BTW speaking of skinning, did you see the StapleButton I made for you? :3 )

I respect your opinion. It is not my place to forcibly try to change it.

Also, why are you banned?? DDDDD:

how long till Microsoft goes bankrupt

all I hope is that vital things like aircraft computers or electronically controlled surgical equipment don't run Windows.

or that if they do, they have disabled Windows Update.

I also wonder what the forced update does to things like GRUB, considering Microsoft still pretends Linux doesn't exist

Do you mean "law", instead of "low"?
In that case, it's quite common in many countries, that you can't do such a thing without the users' permission, meaning that Microsoft broke the law here.
And if they break a law, you have the rights to sue them.

no, he meant "a whole new low". think about it like Microsoft digging themselves in a hole :P

also, that's theory. the PSVita end user agreement was said to be illegal in several countries, including France. It also included shit like "you may not sue Sony". yet, has anything ever happened about it? I don't think so. There were no product bans or anything, the legal teams deciding that are too busy with Apple and Samsung.

yeah :P

but if Microsoft gets to the point where they're interfering with businesses then something seriously needs to get done
