What kind of stupid crapo have you guys done that you can remember?

I remember this one: trying to make a No-CD version of a game knowing zero about the matter.

The process was basically as follows:
* open game executable in Notepad (yes)
* search for D:\ or D:, don't remember
* replace D with C
* save

You guess how that shit went.

Trying to hack MKDS, by breaking Nintendogs open with a Snow Globe, and trying to shove it into the SD Card slot of any Computer that I could find.

Trying to fix the built in antenna, on an old 80's TV. Let's just say; that I got quite the shock.

Trying to clean out the disk slot on my Wii with a floor tile, paper, and tape.

My Mario Kart Wii disc was scratched, and was randomly getting disc errors, and I heard from a Youtube video that you could fix it using toothpaste and water.

Dropping .mp3's in NSMB's sound_data.sdat file expecting it to work. It was a long time ago.

Speaking of CDs: damaging one's reflective layer. Trying to fix it by taping some mirrory silvery paper to it. Obviously didn't give good results.

I remember all of my attempts to get scratches of of DVDs and, CDs.

I tried polishing them with Banana peels. (This one kind of worked, but eh).

Rubbing tooth past on them.

Rubbing peanut butter on them.

Scrubbing them with bleach.

Boiling them in hot water.

Almost none of them went very well, at all.

In Windows XP, changing the program that opened folders from the default one to whatever else, then reverting back to Windows Explorer. Sounds good in theory, but not in practice. Everytime you opened a folder, a new window of Explorer appeared, regardless of the settings.

Installing a Windows 2000 driver in Windows XP. "They aren't that different!" I thought.

Replacing Win2000 shell.dll and other crap with those of WinXP, as an attempt at getting the XP theme in 2000.

Trying to uninstall DirectX to reinstall it "cleanly". Never do that. It causes utter mess and DX doesn't reinstall properly, lacking registry keys and probably other crap.

As a kid: trying to copy a game to another computer via a floppy. Obvious solution? Copy the shortcut on the desktop to the floppy.

When I was younger I probably destroyed Windows 95 or 98 by messing with the system folders...

I probably deleted file saves of Super Smash Bros. 64 and Melee several times because I was just "exploring" the menus.

I replaced Windows XP Professional with Windows XP Home Edition, basically erasing a ton of files, erasing all sound driver data, screwing over my video card, and basically being a noob

I was too interested in computers for my own good when I was 8.

I think I downloaded those "free' screensavers even though they're probably loaded with viruses and crap.

I wish we still have actual good screensavers like the ones in Windows 98 again.

screensavers are kind of a thing of the past though

the point was to avoid displaying the same image for too long on CRT monitors, because that can leave traces, but LCD monitors aren't subject to this
