There are guides for this sort of thing on the web. Hopefully they will be able to help you.

They all require the use of a paid program though, and:
1. I have no way of paying for it
2. It could be a scam

I don't have the money for Hitman Pro, but it is true that the above options don't work. Is there a free alternative?

Page redirects, popups (even when I'm not on my browser), toolbars I never installed, etc.

remove them

some of them might hide shit in AppData folders, you'll have to track it, check task manager, etc

there are software that can help you remove crapware like that, maybe Malwarebytes is one of them but I don't remember

but if Malwarebytes is useless, you'll have to remove the crapware yourself

Your extenions can either be installed in your add-ons or programs in control panel. You have to delete/uninstall anything you don't recognize or looks suspicious (they usually have crap names like "ImproveSearch" or whatever.

note if you're using Chrome: as it autoupdates extensions, something that can happen is that good extensions get bought by dickheads who turn them into adware

Another suggestion: Try browsing around a bit in incognito mode. See if that stops the problem. Then, slowly flag extensions to be enabled in incognito one by one (browsing for a while after each) until the problem starts happening in incognito. Then uninstall the last extension you enabled before the problem started to affect incognito.

If anyone here knows of a potential problem with this strategy, please say so.
